If there's a tiny glimmer of hope in the current lineup of our players who have put themselves in the transfer line it's that nobody has yet broken and they remain waiting to meet our new coach.

Otherwise, we might as well just separate the mid-majors and power conference schools into separate levels. It is getting to the point that college basketball just needs to cease its existence and just have a developmental league for all high schoolers that want to play professionally

We will find out what needs to be done when there's at least a full year of the transfer portal existing and we find out how many actually move. IMO, nothing needs to be done. Players having the ability to gives them some leverage back in case they make a bad decision and/or get lied to in recruiting.

I'm on the other end of it. Make it to where if they enter the transfer protocol, they have to forfeit their scholarship at the previous school and make the players determine whether the risk is worth it. Guarantee you will see the transfer portal numbers cut down by a lot.

School not obligated to provide scholarship to any student who entered Transfer Portal beginning the next semester.

Milon to Creighton looks like more than a rumor.

I look forward to three more weeks of letting coaches flirt with our players while we interview five more Big 12 assistants.

We were mentioning the possibility of bringing in Nate Sestina if Davis was the pick. I believe Fischer was the lead recruiter that brought Sestina to Bucknell. Maybe Sestina is back in play?

Of course, I just read sestina was visiting UK, so he may have have his sights much higher.

Always a Dragon had an interesting article about Demir’s decision, including research into how prior grad transfers performed upon moving to a better conference:

“That prompted my own study of the 18-19 season. And the numbers are grim. Grad transfers who transferred into a “Major” school this sesaon averaged 11 less minutes per game, and collectively went from scoring 12.6 points per game to 5.6 points per game. Only 12 of the 32 players played in the NCAA tournament. Only 2 of the 32 saw an increase in minutes. And only one, Christen Cunningham of Louisville, saw an increase in points per game. Unless you’re moving up to Gonzaga, Kentucky, or Duke (and that isn’t happening for Alihan) the chances of dancing are no better in an up transfer than they would be at Drexel, a team that was projected to be part of the top three, if not the favorite, in the CAA next season. And the possibility of increasing his offensive output? It’s virtually non-existent. As a matter of fact, if we look at uptransfers that averaged at least 30 minutes per game at their school the season prior to moving, the numbers are even worse. The average transfer lost 14 minutes per game and scoring output went from 15.4 ppg to 6.2.

If I’m Alihan and I’m marketing myself for a professional contract, I’d much rather leave school averaging the close to 20 points per game at this level than the single digits that he’s looking at after an up transfer.”

Granted there are many possible reasons for a player to decide to transfer and maybe the player is not concerned about putting up gaudy numbers.

Buried the lede there a little. Who's projecting Drexel as a top 3 CAA team next year?

I was going to point out the same thing. Stings the credibility a bit.

RE: CAA MBB Transfers - 2019
I would expect/hope all of our current players who have placed their name in the transfer portal will have their spot honored going forward. Question becomes how long does Fischer give them to commit to returning. Fischer has to potentially fill needs, if someone is not coming back. They should not be given indefinite time to make that call, including Brown.

I think they would be, for anyone who wants to come back. Fischer’s comments yesterday about having all the pieces in place, plus his apparent style of relating to players, certainly suggests he’s not gonna pull the rug out from anyone. But agreed that the timing can’t be indefinite, because we need a full roster and he needs to know what gaps to fill.

Keep in mind that blog is run by Drexel folks, so there is inherent bias. However looking at the landscape of the CAA, it would be hard not to project them top 3. They return basically everyone including the folks that were supposed to be starters last year that were hurt most of the season.

I would have easily projected Northeastern, Charleston and us (prior to turmoil) ahead of them. Think Drexel is somewhere in a middle tier with Delaware, Hofstra, JMU and Towson, with UNCW and Elon bringing up the rear.

Getting Lee and Walton back into the starting lineup with Wynter, Butler and Demir would be good, but they're not big enough additions to expect to turn 7-11 into top three. Still major questions with them. If their blog thinks they're favorites to win the conference, someone should check the water in Philly.
