Other than breathing problems, i think you could sub alcohol for marijuana in this entire article.

Just my opinion and I know others disagree, but I think legalizing another reality-obscuring drug is a big mistake. Societies who have thrown the door open to unrestricted marijuana usage are not models we should embrace. It will result in increased hard drug usage and vehicular death, among other things.

LMAO. You sound like the narrator on "Refer Madness".
Working as a contractor in government and corporate America, obviously I can't "partake" but I have no problem with what people want to do on their own time.

To be clear since it is how I couched the question, as a parent or grandparent you would advocate the liberty of your children or grandchildren to partake but then draw a line if it were to affect you? Or others? Both?
Why advocate for such if you’re prepared to draw a line to protect yourself that you can’t actually carry out with certainty?

Legalization removes the criminal element and increases tax revenue. Win win.
You should be much more worried about texting and driving or people driving on dangerous pharmaceuticals than stoned drivers.
Weed is so much safer as a pain or relaxant drug than the narcotics that most docs give out like candy. I recently had a doctor try to write me up a 30 day supply of vicodin for a minor issue. I laughed and said thanks but no thanks, I’ll take ibuprofen for a couple days.

Do you have children and if not if you were to have children would you advocate them using marijuana For nonmedical purposes?

There are all sorts of legal things that I wouldn't advocate kids doing. What does that have to do with anything?

It’s not legal for children so of course I would not advocate them doing anything illegal. Once they are adults, that would be their choice. Similarly, I will not approve of my children to use alcohol until they are legal age.

It’s not about legality. It’s about physical and mental health. The impact of that on them. What’s best for them. The very same you’d want for yourself I ‘d presume (at any stage of life) but particularly when you are the most vulnerable, as a child. So it has everything to do with it.
The other point that I asked about was are the depictions of facts accurate? The development of the human brain in particular. If true, why would you advocate unfettered exposure to the risk? Is the statement about THC been chemically altered to be more potent accurate? If so then we’re talking about a horse of a different color then and as Randy referred to in reefer madness, no?

What do you think is worse for a kids brain, getting stoned once in a while on the weekends during teen years or playing tackle football from age 6 to 18?

So we are down to settling for what is worse or not? You're agreeing with the articles contention?
If not, why?

RE: Aside from tax revenue what is the benefit legalizing marijuana?
I agree with the article and have strongly discouraged the use of pot, or any drug, with my children. Yes, they drink alcohol as adults.
That said, the proverbial toothpaste is out of the tube with pot. Like alcohol, our society is safer having it legalized than having it on the black market where it is neither taxed, or regulated.
Regulation is key. When you buy on the black market, you have z-e-r-o idea what you are consuming. Could be good stuff, or could be rat hair and toenail clippings mixed-in with Lord-knows-what. We can regulate the quality, the strength, and the distribution, similar to alcohol, to keep it reasonably safe.
Just because your or I do not like pot, and do not encourage its use, does not mean it should not be legalized. I don't like cigarettes, whiskey, or skydiving, but that does not mean I should make my neighbor a criminal for enjoying them. Laws should generally be avoided for personal tastes (unless we want to ban bright yellow cars...).
With pot, we may either legalize it, regulate and control it, and tax it. Or we may leave things with the black market. What we can't do is determine the demand. Where there is demand there will ALWAYS be supply. We cannot change that, but we can work to make things as safe as possible.

We'd save time and money from police and judges not spending time on marijuana cases. And the dealers wouldn't be taking up a prison cell.
Also, should cigarettes and alcohol also be illegal because kids sometimes use them?

Haven’t seen any definitive research yet but I gotta believe smoking marijuana is as risky for you as cigarettes. It would seem you are taking into your lungs carcinogens that can cause cancer and poses a real health risk.

Marijuana is worse due to lack of filters.
That said, here is an interesting article from the Detroit News on some colleges and universities (including Northern Michigan) offering "Marijuana Majors."

"Won't someone think of the children" the nanny state "conservatives" cry when all their emotionally driven points regarding MJ are factually debunked.
