Army and Navy don't get an extended season. Anyone can play on the second Saturday in December, as that is the last weekend of the regular season as defined by the NCAA.
At the least, they *effectively* get an extended season, because no one else wants to schedule games after the CCGs.
But, if that Saturday is available to everyone, maybe the CCGs should move to that weekend so that everyone has an extra week in which to play the regular season.
I imagine that week is considered off limits because that's around the time most schools are conducting exams.
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that week was indeed off limits to everyone but Army/Navy. I thought they were given an exception?
The second Saturday in December (and the day after, for that matter) is available to every FBS team for regular season games:
Quote:17.10.4 End of Playing Season. [FBS/FCS] A member institution’s last contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition in football shall not be played after the second Saturday or the following Sunday in December, except for the following:
(The exceptions are for bowl games, playoffs, spring scrimmages, etc.)

RE: Florida-Miami in week zero?
So does this mean you can get a waiver for anything next season if you evoke the name of the 150th anniversary?
Nick Saban: Can I put 17 men on the field?
NCAA: I don't think so.
Nick Saban: But it's the 150th anniversary!
NCAA: Alright but just this once.

Don't be ridiculous! Nick Saban would never admit to breaking a rule (thus there's no need for any waivers, since the NCAA wouldn't dare investigate Alabama!)

Ummm... the NCAA nuked Alabama before Saban arrived there. Five years probation. Two year bowl ban. Scholarship reductions. Only USC has been hit with more severe sanctions in recent years.

NCAA Bylaw 17.10.4 defines the end of the playing season for FBS and FCS. It says that "A member institution’s last contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition in football shall not be played after the second Saturday or the following Sunday in December." There are exceptions for postseason bowls, FCS playoffs, etc. specifically listed.
