RE: Saturday Baseball Thread
Thank you, Rhode Island for returning the favor we gave you last night and gifting us this one in the 13th. We REALLY needed that. Hopefully, this win will allow some of our better batters to relax a bit.
Game Ball #1: Evan Kravetz with a career performance (5.0 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 10 Ks), and perhaps even more impressive than his overall dominance was the poise he showed in getting out of a bases loaded, no outs situation in his final inning by striking out the next 3 batters; one after he had fouled off 5 consecutive pitches with a 3-2 count. As many of you know, I have long been a Kravetz fan, and wondered why The OG always gave him a super-quick hook.
Game Ball #2: Kel Bordwine (3.0 IP, 1 infield hit, 0 runs, 1 BB, 2 Ks) and pitching around two errors in back to back innings. Showed good command and an excellent breaking ball.
Game Ball #3: It could have gone to Brad Gneitting (3 hits, double, 2 runs, RBI), but I'm giving it to Antonio Cruz (2 hits, HBP, double, 1 run and 1 RBI) for his enthusiasm and what should have been a game-saving, diving catch in the 9th (as the runner who tagged up a 3B left the bag early, but the umps clearly were not watching.)
We really need to clean up our infield defense. I'll excuse Dom for the next few weeks as he's learning a new position, but not others.
Let's win tomorrow and take the weekend series...and people will forget how ugly it was at times. So far, Canterino, Jefferies, Kravetz, Greenwood and Bordwine have all excelled. Gayle, Wood and Esquivel not so much.
