Don't know about him ever being in Memphis, but his lil ole schools football team has. Guess he's still a little bitter about that 55-22 drubbing his team took, so dissing basketball in the south probably just makes him feel better.

Currently 6 of the top ten ranked teams in the AP are from the South. So I would say basketball in the South is alive and well.

Even if you can get talented players to come play for you, that doesn't mean you can get a lot of fans to come watch.

I've always seen a lot of references to basketball being more popular in the north than south and baseball being more popular in the south than north. Sure there will be outliers.

Oh? Is that why until the New York teams moved out west in MLB that St. Louis was the furthest west and southern city in baseball? Why New Orkeans has an NBA team (it's second) but never a MLB team? That Tennessee and Kentucky don't? Or how well the attendance is doing for the Florida teams?

I guess Texas does have the Astros and Rangers, who are in the AL west....

Ever been to Memphis? That's in the south.
On one side Memphis

On the other Dallas, Huston, Atlanta, Orlando...the list goes on...

Even GT does not sell out in Atlanta. Unless it's tournament time people are not talking about caring about college basketball in the South...

Does the entire state of North Carolina not exist where you're from?

Can you describe this basket? It sounds nice. Is it a wicker basket? It's coming up on Easter, so maybe an Easter basket? Maybe it's something fancy that only the south knows about!

It's made of sweetgrass. Found in coastal or other low lying river regions.

Or apparently Kentucky. Hell look at Tennessee's women's team. SMU and TCU both sell well. Baylor's attendance is pretty good. The rockets seem to have no trouble drawing, San Antonio? Okc?

Sorry Panama but by far the most watched spectator sport in any part of the US is basketball in live attendance and by television. More games and more teams at every level in the US. It's cheap and requires only a ball. Although some sort of basket/hoop is helpful.

While we're on the subject of attendance in sports that don't matter

2018 AAC Baseball Attendance:

ECU - 2,831
Tulane - 1,750
Wichita - 1,675
UCF - 1,499
Houston - 1,490
USF - 979
UConn - 565
Cincinnati - 491
Memphis - 431

I'll be back with the indoor track and field and ladies lacrosse numbers shortly...

Considering the product ECU has put on the court not only this year but for nearly eternity ECU's average isn't that bad. If ECU were playing at UCF's level they'd be up near sellout capacity every night. Now the question is can ECU ever get to that level, and the answer is I hope so but who knows.

Tulsa Baseball would crush this.

Let me find that dead horse.......05-mafia

I wish we had baseball, this conference really performs well in most sports and has national contenders in them. But basketball and baseball have off the charts potential. Tulsa has great high school baseball and so does most of our traditional recruiting areas.

You know this horse really can take a beating, just gonna put it back in storage till I need it in the baseball threads.

We did.

Title IX and a drunk for a coach who rubbed the administration the wrong way caused us to lose a team that had placed 2nd in the College World Series. Unlike other sports Baseball is quite expensive to start up and maintain especially taking into consideration the title IX requirements. Hence the university has never restarted the program.

I don't know why SMU doesn't but I would assume similar circumstances different story. Both have had traditionally strong male soccer teams too. Probably a contributing factor in no baseball. The conference is pretty solid in soccer too. Just not baseball level.

Speaking of attendance (sort of), 115 is the section behind the visitors bench at Reynolds, right? Wanted to double-check before purchasing tickets.

106 is behind the visitors. StubHub has them at like $12 plus fees.

Technically, it's Hoops City. Memphis is just a nickname.

Plus Kentucky and North Carolina are two of the most hoops-crazed states and they are in the south. Might be more accurate to say people in the deep south don't watch basketball.

I wonder which region of the country the current #1 ranked basketball team in the country resides?

North, South, East, or West?
