RE: 40% of the AAC...
In Florida, Miami should have awesome attendance being a member of the AAC, but they only averaged about 7,100 last year when they won 22 games and finished ranked #22...and are averaging well under 7,000 this year.

UCF should be doing better this year, but I don't stress about it. UCF basketball needs to be consistently better for a couple years before attendance average gets to the 6,000 - 7,000 level. We followed up the NIT Final 4 year with not going to EITHER post season tournament the year after that. UCF football attendance didn't go up significantly until late in our undefeated 2017 season. Central Floridians evidently want to see success BEFORE they start attending games.

If we can go to the NCAA tourney this year and win a game, I think we will average over 5,000 next year as long as we don't fall too far backward after losing Tacko Fall and BJ Taylor (and possibly Aubrey Dawkins).

I watch a lot of college basketball, and attendance sucks everywhere other than about 5-10 venues a night, depending on the slate. You could hear a pin drop during the BC-Pitt game last night. People don’t go to sporting events in the same numbers anymore. This is true for every sport, even the NFL. These threads are becoming more and more useless.

lol wut?

We have four programs at or near capacity for the average: Memphis, UC, WSU, and UH. That's four right there that do NOT SUCK at attendance this year. You say 5-10...we have 4. Are you saying there are only 1-6 teams outside the AAC that aren't sucking at attendance? I don't buy it.
I don't want to shock you... but reported attendance does not equal actual attendance. I think OUGwave actually watches the games and sees empty seats.

Check this sight out.

Empty seats galore
All schools report tickets sold, not actual attendance.

my point exactly... people see a lot of empty seats at basketball arenas all over the country... thus.. wait for it.....

drum roll please....

attendance sucks

Right, and like I said, this happens in the SEC/ACC/B12 etc. Being a busy Saturday today, you probably had 10 that were rocking. Maybe 15. But there were a ton of 1/3rd-1/4th full arenas in the power leagues, I assure you. Just watch the games and you can see it.

Another sport we’d dominate in attendance if we were actually decent.

Tulsa Baseball would crush this.

Let me find that dead horse.......05-mafia

I wish we had baseball, this conference really performs well in most sports and has national contenders in them. But basketball and baseball have off the charts potential. Tulsa has great high school baseball and so does most of our traditional recruiting areas.

You know this horse really can take a beating, just gonna put it back in storage till I need it in the baseball threads.

07-coffee3

Since I don't know the story I'll allow you to beat the horse some more, why on earth don't Tulsa and SMU have baseball?

We did.

Title IX and a drunk for a coach who rubbed the administration the wrong way caused us to lose a team that had placed 2nd in the College World Series. Unlike other sports Baseball is quite expensive to start up and maintain especially taking into consideration the title IX requirements. Hence the university has never restarted the program.

I don't know why SMU doesn't but I would assume similar circumstances different story. Both have had traditionally strong male soccer teams too. Probably a contributing factor in no baseball. The conference is pretty solid in soccer too. Just not baseball level.

It’s an even better story

Cuse is expecting 36,000 this Saturday vs Duke. The cheapest ticket is $75. Some seats are more than 100 yards away. Many times they have had crowds exceeding 20K even when 6-12 inches of snow fell that day. Let that sink in for those fans who make excuses why they draw flies.

Sorry, football season tickets sales are on track to increase by 30%. I expect they'll average 41-42K... about 38K more than GA State.
