Dixie State Football Scheduling
Just saw on FBSchedules that Dixie State has announced a home-and-home series with Sacramento State.
To date, DSU has got home-and-homes with Southern Utah (2-for-1), Weber State (2-for-1) and Northern Arizona (three home, three away).
Got to give this new program some credit. They are doing exactly what they need to do and secure FCS games against the Big Sky Conference. These are schools their fan base presumably wants to see and from an economic standpoint, easiest travel.
As a Southland Conference fan, hope we see some of our schools do a home-and-home with them too.

If I were Dixie State, I would go ahead and schedule Baylor. Baylor scheduled Incarnate Word when they were brand new to FCS.

It is also attractive for the Big Sky to have "local" OOC opponents to schedule.

RE: Dixie State Football Scheduling
The Big Sky already is scheduling conference opponents for non-conference H/Hs. A huge need for more western FCS members and eventually another western FCS conference like Dixie State is shooting for. Their AD already has called independence unsustainable long-term

Another reason why the WAC should target CWU - the northern BSC teams would schedule them in a heartbeat - EWU, PSU, Idaho, Idaho State, etc.

RE: Dixie State Football Scheduling
Not to mention, Division II football out west is becoming an increasingly rarer bird, especially with Humboldt State dropping football. Outside of football, Seattle obviously is the only WAC opponent that’s close by, but EWU, Idaho, Portland, Gonzaga, and Portland State are all close - and all but Portland and Gonzaga play football.
As far as the rest of GNAC football, I doubt Western Oregon will ever be Division I material, unless if they experience a 70% growth in enrollment. Azusa Pacific, if they can get their finances together, pretty much is in the WAC whenever they choose to join. It might be easier for the WAC to push Simor Fraser - there are at least ample flights to YVR, and if timed right, it might be possible to save a little on the application fee due to exchange rates. Not to mention, Seattle is only 135 miles away.

Dixie State adds BYU, Colorado State, plus eight more to future schedules
https://fbschedules.com/dixie-state-byu-...schedules/
Dixie State has now scheduled future games against an additional eight opponents, including BYU and Colorado State, according to copies of contracts obtained from Dixie State University via a state Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) request.
Below are the 10 new opponents Dixie State has scheduled with details on each game and/or series:

I just saw the news about the Dixie St-BYU football match up in the local paper. In one bold swoop, Dixie State has now generated more publicity than Utah Valley.

SVU don't do football. Just saying. But Dixie is on the move, and on the right track.

RE: Dixie State Football Scheduling
I like the potential of Dixie State. But their 2020 FCS independent schedule looks awful...
2020:
South Dakota Mines, Azusa Pacific
@SUU, @Montana State, @Sac State, @Weber State, @South Dakota St, @Illinois State
Other Potential Games: @FBS (Fresno State? New Mexico State?)
7 away games if they schedule an FBS, and 4 home games.
They gotta find their way into the Pioneer League for football and schedule SUU/Weber State/FBS, IMO.

RE: Dixie State Football Scheduling
Dixie State has added more schools to future schedules.
https://fbschedules.com/dixie-state-adds...schedules/
Drake will be visiting DSU in 2020. Drake will be the first FCS school to visit St. George. I thought that DSU would reach out to a Pioneer League school, but I expected it to be San Diego. That would be a good series and a short trip for both schools if they could develop a home and home.
Azusa Pacific (Already on the 2020 schedule) has been added to the 2021 schedule as well.
A three game series has been set up with Sam Houston State and a home and home with North Alabama.

Wins over non-scholarship FCS teams don't count towards FBS bowl eligibility. So no more FBS games if Dixie joins the Pioneer.
I know there are exceptions to this rule; San Diego has played San Diego State, Army has played Yale. But those were essentially exhibition games made possible by goodwill between the admins at their respective schools.

The only time I've seen it happen was 3 or 4 years back when South Alabama was scheduled to play at LSU, but the Tigers cancelled us and we beat Presbyterian in a fill-in and beat them for a 6-6 season to play in a bowl game.
