FWIW, Dukes are at #42 in the RPI this morning. That's up 5 spots from a week ago.
Northeastern has an RPI of #84, which is the next highest in the CAA after the Good Gals...and, who happens to be our next opponent on their home court in Boston Friday evening.
Our ladies ambushed the Huskies at the Convo by 35 pts a few weeks ago. Likely will be an entirely different story coming up later this week at their place. I expect it to be a good game, though hoping we can crush them like we did at our place.
The Man said there was a band player waving a poster of a gorilla while one of the Towson players was shooting a foul shot. I didn't see it, but if that is the case, that's definitely out of bounds and shouldn't be tolerated. I can see someone getting upset about that.
I believe Logan is going to grow up to be a coach. She is constantly talking to Coach O, asking for ideas, talking to the other players about what's going on, etc. And it's common wisdom that point guards make the best coaches...Dawn Staley comes to mind, and I could name several others. Let's see where she ends up as a graduate assistant next year.....

I was not there and no of nothing that happened.......the only thing I can think of was if it did happen and I have seen this in other arenas with the large head cut-outs. Harambe (sp?), the gorrilla from that zoo in Cincy a fews years ago has something of a cult following. I have seen him on everything from shirts, to socks, to posters, to fatheads.
Yeah, definitely. I assume if it happened, it's something like that where someone's being selectively offended. In such a situation, the complainer conveniently ignores that it was happening all game, not just specifically for that student as some sort of racial undertone.

Keep in mind that Towson has a majority minority enrollment (69%) and from what I could tell their team was all African-American. And how would the complainer know that such a thing was happening at all games? They were from Towson, not JMU. I'm sorry, but your excuse doesn't hold water. I personally think waving such a poster is kind of rude.

Northeastern has slipped considerably since their unbeaten string was snapped. They were beaten recently by Hofstra and UNCW, and although they beat up Charleston quite badly (who doesn't?) they had some trouble with Delaware, finally winning it 75-62. So while we can't take them for granted, and certainly not at home, our Good Gals should be able to take them in a fair fight.

I think he was saying is that is was not specific to one player in that game (if it happened at all....I was not there) but was present throughout. I don't think he was saying that is may/may not have been present at all home games.
I was merely stating earlier that Harambee likenesses is a common/cult thing seen all around since incident happened at the Cincy Zoo. I was merely stating that I have seen Harambee showup at plenty of other arenas.
If I am on the road I think it is pretty rude anytime, anyone waves crap behind a backboard where my team is shooting free-throws.

You're missing the point entirely. It's this particular likeness that's the problem, not "anything". Waving stuff is a tradition, whether it's the cheerleaders waving their pompoms or anything else. And according to my husband, it did happen. I do believe I've seen that gorilla poster in the past but I didn't notice it yesterday. I wasn't looking at the band at that particular moment, I was focusing on the shooter. I'm not going to get into a protracted argument with you about this, but I do think that waving a gorilla likeness at an African-American can be considered offensive. Think about the times that term and likeness were used in relationship to our last president; if you don't think it's disrespectful perhaps the perception may be your problem? This is intended to be my last comment on the subject.

Salty much, geez. I am not arguing with you so not sure why you want to take it that way nor have I addressed you in any rude manner. Get over yourself.
Whatever, well please go on this tirade every single time you see a shirt, socks, etc......with an Harambe likeness......here start with Nike here is the link (https://www.freshelites.com/products/har...74522561), go let'em have it. How dare Nike allow Fresh Elites to produce this sock.
I see kids black and white wearing Harambe gear at every big track meet I go too and I have been to 4 or 5 big meets this winter alone.

"ALL GAME", not all season. My "excuse" is a hypothesis, not knowing any of the necessary facts. I've just seen it happen before. I agree that waving a poster with a gorilla on it is a bad decision because of just this possibility.

You even quoted my post, but couldn't take the time to read it??
band kids: wave more posters please. keep up the distractions. Long live home court advantage. Enough of this safe space ****. Everyone's offended by something.
I don't care what the band kids wave as long as it's not that, okay? I love most of the signs they have, the baby picture, even the spinner. I love our pep band; they're the "sixth man". But I don't like the idea of a gorilla poster waved at black players, ANY black players.
HyperDuke, if you think I was salty, you ain't seen me get salty yet. You don't want to. And for all you or I know the complainer may have been complaining about the poster being waved all game, but I wasn't over there so I don't know. I didn't really pay attention to it and didn't see it "waved all game" either. Did you?
Well EXCUUUSE ME!! With all the posts flying I got the person who called me salty wrong and it should have been ShadyP. That does not give you the excuse to shout at me and call me senile. Don't EVER do that again. I apologize for getting the wrong person, but you need to apologize for yelling and calling names. I didn't call you anything.
I apologize. Understand that you did the most annoying thing ever where you “respond” to posts you didn’t even read. Everyone agrees that waving a gorilla poster at black players appears racist...but I suspect the image was waved indiscriminately all game long. That absolutely changes the scenario. Intent matters in this situation.
While I agree that it would be offensive if it was the intent, I don’t believe our Pep band behaves in that way. They have had many signs through the years and many different animals. I would assume it’s young kids not thinking about the way this particular sign would be received in a sport with many different races.
