I wont comment on that. As a Drexel fan that is not my place to comment on coaching of other teams, however I will say that goes back to the ego comment that most coaches have. They would rather it not work their way than not work another person's way. Acceptable risk.
I think that's silly. A coach is essentially a manager. Managers in the real world surround themselves with people to help strengthen any weakness they may have, Coaches usually do the same.

RE: DEFENSIVE STATS RANKED NATIONALLY
I am not saying what is right or wrong. I am just saying how coaching tends to work at our level. If you find a selfless coach that attacks his weaknesses through his assistants, you likely dont have that coach very long as he will be moving up to bigger and better.

RE: DEFENSIVE STATS RANKED NATIONALLY
With all this talk about having a "Defensive Coordinator" on the staff, how do we not know that this was Jackie Manuel's reason for being added to the staff. For those that remember him as a Tar Heel, he was an absolute menace on defense. He almost always took the oppositions best player, and was key player on the 2005 National Championship team. With Esleeck being the lead recruiter and top assistant, Wolf being brought on to coach the bigs (leaving literally weeks before this season), I think it's safe to assume Jackie was probably brought on to help with the defense...

Bro. Relax. No reason to be so dismissive of someone making a good point. Everyone has said, “bring someone in who can coach defense”. You’re not at practice. Maybe JM is teaching and is a good teacher. Maaaaaybe, just maybe the players don’t get it and/or just aren’t good at implementing it. Or your right and he can’t coach, although I’d reckon to bet JM has forgotten more about the game than most of us will ever learn.
My point is we don’t know what is happening, and that’s why coaches usually get a few years to get their players and make it work.
For example, Ty Gadsden. Rookie. Arguably our best defender. He’s not great, but he seems better than the rest. What if in 2-3 more years under McGrath when Kai and Ty are juniors and seniors all of a sudden we have more of these players that play like Gadsden.
We are 1.5 years into McGrath here.
Can we please at least afford some of the fans on the board here with a different opinion a better response than “well it ain’t workin!!” And dismissively assume a D1 national champion and great defender somehow can’t coach defense?

Absolutely agree with this but I hear that Manuel is a good teacher. Its hard to argue that with what you see on the court at times. Against Elon they went under the pick on #41 and he made every shot-switched that to hedge in the 2nd half but he still made shots. If you give a guy like him space he will most likely make shots. Just looking at the guy you had to think that must be a shooter because he was very slow footed. Elon is a team of shooter but not real athletic and would be all most impossible to zone them up. I like either switch everything against these teams or hedge but you have to do one of the two I think.

Sorry man, I'm a numbers guy, and we have regressed as a team this year on D(didn't think it was possible). Proof is in the pudding.
Don't mean to be dismissive of Gary, he always has solid points.
And What someone did as a player really doesn't mean it translates to coaching, I give you exhibit A, Danny Manning!

Obviously, it isn't working. I'm not defending anybody, I'm just stating a theory nobody else has brought up. If this is the case and Jackie is the "Defensive Coordinator," do we think he deserves to be fired?.... because the likelihood that C.B. fires a kid he coached at UNC are slim... Going back to Drexel Dan's point, I find it hard to believe that CB would fire Jackie and risk causing any bad blood with his UNC ties because if ultimately it doesn't work out at UNCW, he'll be calling up Roy for a job... Maybe Jackie wasn't brought on to be the "DC" and CB will just hire someone for that role and move Burke back to DOBO. Everybody can keep stating the obvious "our defense sucks!... yada, yada, yada" I'm just trying to theorize how it could be fixed.

Which is fine... You're a good contributor Hoops... I respect your opinion. We all want the same result in the end, regardless of how we individually deem the best way to get there.

My ideas were to bring in an assistant with a D background in Coaching. We discussed that quite a bit yesterday. And for the record, was immediately dismissed by you :)
