Lomax isn’t a good shooter, but hopefully he’ll improve throughout his career. For now, people should lower their expectations of the guy. He does a lot of good things on the court, but he was never a flashy 5* prospect expected to light the world on fire in year 1.

This is true. People expect so much from these freshmen. Give them some time.

He's only a Freshman averaging 13ppg. Compare that to last yrs Freshman Johnson who avg 7 and is now in the SEC. I'd say he's D1 quality.
His claim to fame is that he is a dead eye shooter. However, this year he has really struggled with consistency. Yesterday he was 0-5 from 3pt and 2-8 overall. That is not going to cut it as a D-1 player. It doesn't make up for his size. Hopefully, he will get it figured it out. But if he doesn't I would have to agree that he is not playing as a D-1 player. We need him to shoot well every game.

Lomax has never been a great shooter.
So how did he win 2 state Mr. Basketballs ...
Not by being a great shooter.
he’s a freshman. Freshmen are inconsistent. WOW!!!
Wow what? You cant label Lomax a great shooter. He never was in high school. That's not why penny wanted him. He did all the other stuff a true pg does. True point guards aren't typically scorers. Will his shot improve in college? Maybe. But to say hes a great shooter?? Come on man...

Lomax will be similar to Chris Garner without the steals. He has to improve his lateral quickness to apply pressure defense to set up someone else for the steal instead of reaching all the time. He just has to hit the open shot when it shows. The team will never run plays for him to shoot the 3 like they will Tyler who is going through a slump now.
Tyler just has to translate what he does at home verses the road. He shot well at LSU and in Orlando but since he's hit the freshman wall he's only shooting good at home. Every freshman went through it except Sean Banks, Penny, and DeJuan Wagner. Joe Jackson, Will Barton and David Vaughn went through slumps. Tyler will be fine.

I am certain Penny didn't go through it.

Ahhh...contrasting Penny to a player is not something Penny is doing, though.
In the last week, Penny said he understands that players won’t produce the same results he and Miller did. Maybe we should ‘understand’ that too.
It’s becoming apparent, tho, that Penny and the other coaches will not abide lack of effort— whether during a game or in practice. (Cue Iverson)
Penny mentioned Martin was putting in extra effort/time working on his shot which paid off, btw. P loved that. It was also mentioned in another article how happy Penny got when Kyrie Irving drove that effort point home into our players.
Extracting effort is tricky. Keeping up the confidence of a shooter, like TH, is tricky. It’s beyond fluid. Thank goodness we’ve left the realm of juice boxes and counseling is all I can say .
lol Effort is the message here— just in case juice boxes conjured up bad times.

No one knew that the Saints would be playing at that time until a week prior.

Thing about lomax is how bad he is defensively. Man we need an Antonio Burkes type point guard in a bad way; someone that takes it personal when someone gets by him!!

Lomax rebounds very well for his size and he gives max effort.
I can handle lack of talent and ability in a player, but (like Penny) I have a problem when players do not provide sufficient effort and desire.

Lomax is a capable defender but the way we are attempting to defend is almost impossible outside of the elite of the elite...Too many restrictions with how the game is now officiated.
