RE: Just one last attempt to put this Tubby thing to bed
(01-11-2019 01:17 PM)Stammers Wrote:  Tubby is like the old guy in an old school company that refuses to embrace technology, refuses to keep up with the times, and has his own "system" that only he knows. He has no interest in delegating, training or any type of standard manual that anyone else at the company has access to, so that others can step in to help him do his job and make improvements. He keeps all the info to himself and is able to keep things running fairly well while he is there and pretty much keeps the entire company captive to his whims and idiosyncrasies.

When Tubby leaves, the new guy has to untangle the mess, and has to figure out all of the tricks and shortcuts that Tubby used to keep things barely afloat. He has to completely retrain everyone from scratch, asking them to forget all the stuff that they learned before. It's a very difficult process for sure. Last night we lost out on almost every loose ball, 50/50 ball and contested rebound. When we did try to rebound, we were almost always outnumbered and when we weren't we lost rebounds to a single ECU player who we had surrounded.

This group of seniors was better coached by Tubby than they have been so far with Penny, there is no doubt about that. Whether we will be able to say the same thing at the end of the season is debatable. The bottom line is that Tubby got a lot of mileage out of players that were not highly ranked; more than most can get out of similarly ranked players. This isn't a knock on any of our players even though you can see that they were outworked. You can't criticize players that are playing the exact way that they should play according to their high school and JC rankings.

The guys are performing to form, performing as they should be expected to perform. The question is, whether or not they have more in them than they are showing. We will have to wait and see.

I can't say that the seniors were better coached by the Tub.
I know we had 21 wins last season, but outside of a couple, they were meaningless wins. We didn't even sniff the NIT.

I see that a lot (not pointing at you since you didn't even say it), people look at last season and 21 wins without actually looking at the wins. We beat Houston, which was great, at the same time Houston had the flu or something, like down to 6 scholarship players when we played them.

We had 2 of the worst losses in Tiger history last season. We had to pull off miracles a couple of times to beat teams that were awful. And none of the miracles were due to coaching, they were just unbelievable luck.

Why do some say he is a good man? Unless some of you really know him personally.

As a father, he is certainly an enabler. His son is a complete loser, yet somehow he enjoys the power trip of having him as an assistant underneath him yet at the same time knows he's worthless as both a recruiter and a coach? If he knows it, he's criminal for robbing the university's and not getting someone better in. If he doesn't he is a complete blind idiot. Either way not a good man

He came in here on day one and said "I can recruit with the best of them". A complete and utter lie. Not the trait of a good man

Absolutely agree, but when you add Norvell and Penny, they get an A for the semester.

Here's a look at the players comparing last year and this year per 40 minutes played. Of course, we do a lot more in one minute than we did last year. But it seems to show that Tubby didn't coach "his" players better.

I don't agree with this statement at all. No one wakes up and says to themselves "I'm going after a job and when I get it, I'm going to bury the MF'ers"

RE: Just one last attempt to put this Tubby thing to bed
Ridiculous first sentence. Truth is Tubby could coach but was on cruise control and too lazy to recruit. Pastner worked his butt off recruiting but couldn't coach or, at least, couldn't communicate to the players what he was thinking or wanting them to do. If we could have combined the best traits of these two coaches, we might have actually had a pretty good coach.

What a stupid thread.

I like Tubby, I like Pastner, and I like Penny...not so keen on Cal, tho.
