Normally you recruit for 3-4
1. Linebackers have to be very versatile.
In 4-3 they mostly cover running backs out of the backfield, or drop back into zone coverage, and are the second line of defense vs the run. A 3-4 linebacker is a primary part of run defense, and most all of the pass rush, but also must be able to play in pass coverage at times.
2. The nose guard is a very specific position and is one of the most, if not THE most physical position on the team. Often a nose guard (nose tackle) has to play the center AND the two guards at the same time. He must be big, strong, athletic and quick.
3. The other two down linemen are called defensive ends, but are usually larger and more like tackles. They must be quick and strong, more suited to run defense than pass rush.
Unless we get some JUCOs or recruits that are specific to the 3-4, we will have to hold off on that until we can.
