That's not to say we light it up in September OOC, but we tend to perform better in those early season games. Not sure why. Are the northern guys more 'in awe' of the experience (warm weather, touristy stuff, etc.) whereas the southern players are more focused?
That might be it. How did the MAC do in the bowl game they used to have in Detroit?

RE: 2018 MAC Bowl Season
Actually the MAC's record has been pretty poor in Detroit as well, particularly after 2006. Although 8 of the 15 games were against a P5/former BCS opponent (at the time). Only current MAC members shown below, did not include Marshall.
Motor/Pizza/Quick Lane
4-11 record
2001: Toledo over Cincinnati
2002: Boston College over Toledo
2003: BGSU over Northwestern
2004: UConn over Toledo
2005: Memphis over Akron
2006: CMU over MTSU
2007: Purdue over CMU
2008: FAU over CMU
2009: Marshall over Ohio
2010: FIU over Toledo
2011: Purdue over WMU
2012: CMU over WKU
2013: Pittsburgh over BGSU
2015: Minnesota over CMU
2017: Duke over NIU

That's true! But the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl is a funnier name.
I was actually at the first iteration of the Pizza Bowl back in 2009 when the Bobcats took on the Herd.

Sweet flea-flicker TD for OU.
Barring a late collapse, Ohio again representing the MAC well in a bowl.

(This applies to public schools, privates can do as they please, since it's not tax payer money)
Ohio, Illinois, Michigan are all big offenders.
Among FBS schools UMass and EMU are by far the worst offenders. Several MAC schools are offenders as well, though not on the same level. $100M transferred in 5 years is very serious money, as is $40M in student fees. That could have paid for the expansion of the school by 1000 students to attend free, or as many as 4-5,000 without subsidies (probably a middle number of 2-3,000 additional students in the UMass system is the true cost). Effectively over 1/3rd of the foundation fund raising has to offset the drain athletics is on the school. Think what could have been built with $100M, what research (and student participation value in that) could have been done. That is called lost opportunity cost.
The fundamental truth is UMass football supporters are welfare recipients. They pay $1 for every $14 of tax payer money to support their habit.
I take it you would like to see UMASS drop football?
On another note, I wonder why CBS-SN or even ESPN didn't pick up this game? There's only a few games this weekend and it features two state schools (Hawaii vs Massachusetts) I think people would tune in.
It's all about exposure. Sign a deal for one game or go with the best regional network in the area. Hell Hawaii needed 7 games for their ppv deal. At this point it's about exposure . We need to learn how to win. Let's see how we do Saturday.
Ps we'll only loss one starter next year. Last year we were one of the youngest teams.

The shot about UMass is so bogus. We have 10 million improvements and 6 million is via two donations.

RE: 2018 MAC Bowl Season
Ohio shuts out San Diego State 27-0.
That's Ohio's second consecutive bowl victory, and also the MAC's first win over SDSU (The Aztecs were 13-0-1 against the MAC prior to tonight).
This was also the first meeting between the Bobcats and the Aztecs.

RE: 2018 MAC Bowl Season
Usually Ohio has its opponent knocked out of there by the 2nd with a 31 point quarter.
SDSU has a Top 25 scoring defense and hung in there tough into the second half.
A tough team that I have to give credit for not rolling over.
