When was last time UAB basketball beat a Top 10 team?
Was it Butler? Can’t remember. Been awhile.

AP Top 10?
They were the highest rated 3 seed (#9 overall) in the tournament so should count

Iowa St was #9 in the AP Poll and #10 in the coaches poll when we beat them. They had beaten Kansas in the Big 12 championship game 5 days earlier.

Butler wasn't ranked when we beat them at home, and neither was VCU. They both went on the the Final 4 (diff seasons). So, my advice to Auburn is to lose to UAB, and you are almost certain to make a run. :)

I remember that the Butler loss to UAB in December was their last loss that season until they lost to Duke in the NCAA Tournament Championship game.

Butler was ranked when we beat them at home. They were #20 in the AP poll and #16 in the coaches poll.

Butler definitely was ranked, but they were not in the top 10.
We beat Cincy with MD i think the same year and they were like #24 or #25. That was the year they had lance stephenson

The one top 10 win really sums up our basketball program since 2006. Davis had us in the top 25 for a week after beating Butler and Cinci. Haase won the CUSA tourney and then beat ISU. So two really good weeks in a dozen years.
Maybe we should shut men's hoops down and re-start.

Since 2006, we have also won the CUSA regular season twice (2011, 2016) and won the tournament once. So maybe more than just two weeks.
Most UAB fans either don’t realize or refuse to realize that a lot of the down slide has been relat3d to changes in the college basketball landscape. There used to be a lot of schools like UAB that could go toe to toe with the bigger conferences. Now there are a few like Gonzaga, Wichita State, etc. we play fewer ranked teams, so our wins against them or fewer.
The BCS was the start of the change in the basketball landscape. Bigger conferences got more money. Smaller schools were left out in the cold. The reason UAB no longer has a giant like Gene Bartow is because coaches move up to where the.money is. The examples cited above (Gonzaga, Wichita State) have succeeded because those schools ponied up and paid their coaches comparable salaries to the bigger conferences.
Yes, UAB has slid back as well. We should be top 4 in CUSA every year, but the lack of support that basketball gets has contributed to that. Our focus has been elsewhere. You may say win and the crowds will come back. That hasn’t proven to be true. Schedule better? Not easy to do in this era of basketball.
Good points all but here's my rebuttal: very few in Birmingham give a damn about everything you just wrote. Looks like around 3,000 people at best. The few successes since '06 haven't been built on. Our product has been mostly mediocre and there is no excitement around the program. That's the current real status of UAB basketball in the place it resides.
Contrast that with UAB football since the start of the 2014 season. Every season Coach Clark has been here we have improved. The turnaround started before the drama of the shutdown/resurrection. The recipe for improved attendance is the same for basketball: put a better product out there and start winning some games you aren't expected to win. Win where you are and position your program for the future. It's not complicated but also not easy. It takes the right leadership.
We have 25,000 very good leads for basketball marketing. Some of those football fans probably don't like basketball but I bet most just don't like boring mediocre basketball. What will it take to get those folks interested? That's probably what Mark Ingram is thinking about right now when it comes to basketball. He's got a year, maybe less, to figure it out.
It's another tall task ahead but winning tonight would be a great place to start for Ehsan. UAB basketball needs another giant killing and Auburn is as big a foe as we'll face this season.
Get the sling ready Blazers.

RE: When was last time UAB basketball beat a Top 10 team?
Would be interesting to know when the last time other teams in our conference beat a top 10 team.
I think MTSU has done it more recently (probably even a couple of times)
