WBB at PVAMU
Sloppy start (7-6 Rice). My take: this team needs an organized game to thrive. They need to control the tempo and play a standard possession by possession game. PVAMU is pressing, running in transition and we look a bit unprepared. Wouldn't be surprised to see more teams push the envelope with us in conference play.

Easily the worst 1st quarter of the season. 12-11 PV.

We're playing like crap.

29-22 Rice at the half. As horrible as PVAMU is making this game to watch by fouling every other play, it's been effective. No rhythm to the game.

29 - 22 Rice at half, with Erica accounting for 17 of those points on 4-7 shooting and 6-6 from the charity stripes. The rest of the team is 2-15 from the field. Ugh. We're going to be VERY easy to defend unless 2 - 3 others step up on offense. The team has a whopping total of only 3 assists for the half (vs. 10 TOs).

This game is just a flat-out failure from the coaches down to the players. Completely unprepared for PVAMU's style of play. Team is sleepwalking out there, which I kind of understand because of finals. But still. Disappointing.

PV made halftime adjustments, Rice didn't.

43-40 at 27 seconds in 3rd.

The team just can't handle an aggressive press. Season will only get worse until they can.

Yup. 51-49 now, and we already have 21 turnovers. Offensively, it's still ERica (23 points, 5-9 FG, 12-12 FTs), though Grigsby has just woken up with a couple buckets.

Grigbsy now with 3 consecutive buckets (12 points on 3-4 shooting). 55 - 49 Rice w/ 4:34 to go.

Grigsby carrying team down the stretch-- now with 16 points (5-6 FG, 4-5 FTs, 5 rebounds).

64 - 53 Rice with 1:00 left. Erica with 25 points, 8 boards (5-9 FG, 14-14 FTs).

66-53 Rice with 56 seconds and PV's starters out of fouls to give.

Any train wreck you walk away from.

I will say it's nice to have a Rice team good enough to win even when having a bad day.

68 - 58 final.

Ugly game with 23 turnovers (vs. only 13 for PVAM). However, we dominated the Boards (40 vs. 24) and won the game at the charity stripes (31-38 vs. 11-18 for PVAM).

Erica (27 pts, 8 rebounds) and Gigsby (16 points) led the way, with Nicole adding 8 boards, but only 7 points on 1-4 shooting. Take away Erica and Grigsby and the rest of the team shot only 5-22 from the field.

It should be pointed out that this was a road game (albeit local) in the middle of Finals week, so the team deserves a bit of break for that.

Similar to the TSU game with how our opponent played and our problems overcoming that style.

We’ll take it.
I don’t know if the women are using the new “NET” metric this year... but a ten point win gets you max points in that system.

RE: WBB at PVAMU
It might be time to get Grigsby in the starting lineup (over Rainey, who is still not playing that great although I suspect she'll have a game here or there where she'll have 15-20 points). Honestly, if both Grigsby and Rainey are contributing, we don't really need Olivia Ogwumike.

Schedule gets a little tougher next week with an okay (but not amazing) SMU team, followed by the North Carolina game which is probably our toughest or 2nd toughest game remaining on the 2018-19 schedule for now.

Keep on winning. Is Olivia and Maulkey still injured?

Mulkey still isn't playing but it did appear that her cast was off, unless my eyes are failing me.

Also, I thought Ellig was pretty decent today. I know she's a bit different than Alao, but I think Ellig should probably be getting the majority of the minutes between the two.

Fingers crossed I'll be in the house for Mulkey's Rice debut next Saturday vs. SMU. 03-cloud9
