So you mean the same number of years of eligibility that Brent Stockstill had?

Yep but Clark had a whole roster full of them.

I agree it should have been Clark, but I also don't think he is that good of a coach. He won a down CUSA this year with a roster full of 28 year old men thanks to the NCAA. We will see how he does next year. I suspect UAB will fall back a bit.

Clark should have been Coach of the Year again. It really isn't close.

If he can coach his team to a win over Appalachian State, I'll be impressed.

Stole that from a La Tech fan I bet. Even if we fall back a bit, isn’t that common? No one wins conference championships every year.

Facts. UAB & MTSU both we’re projected to finish 3rd in their division. Both finished first. UAB won the championship.

UAB beat 5 bowl eligible teams, MT beat 2.

Clark can count to 12... Stockstill...

Our conference leadership is shaky to say the least. I am still scratching my head on the all-conference baseball selections that had Matt Wallner a 3rd team selection, while nationally he was 1st team All American...

I'm a La Tech fan, and I think Clark should have been Coach of the Year. Not to take anything away from Stockstill. I think it's a remarkable story, how he stayed when he had no team.

I knew UAB would be good this year, but like most, I had them behind UNT in the west in my pre-season predictions. But, it's not at all surprising they won the west, and after seeing them play in person, I am not surprised at all they are CUSA Champs.

I'll be rooting for the Blazers in the bowl game.

Rick Stockstill CUSA coach of the year.
Guys, here’s three envelopes.
1 has the Conference Title.
1 has the top $$$ contract in the conference
1 has the Coach of the Year award

Coach Clark, you totally rocked it and you’ve earned the right to pick two of the three, but please leave one for the other guy.

Done.

MTSU has a chance now due to APp. St. losing most of their coaches to UofL....

FWIW, this was clearly Stockstill's best coaching performance of his career; he earned this award. A porous o-line is tough to overcome, but he found a way. Schafer the d-coord from Syracuse appears to have had a huge positive impact on Stockstill's coaching style. He coached this year to win rather than avoid losing....it's higher risk, but reflects his coaching maturity.

One play rarely loses a game: 12 men on the field may not have changed the outcome. We correct it, put the black & blue hurt on an over-confident AppySt, and introduce CUSA to a running QB next season.

Merry Christmas all!

Bill Clark deserved this award. It was common sense. How did they blow this?

Middle Tennessee must redeem itself in the New Orleans Bowl. Beat those guys. Put them in their place. The Sun Belt champ can't beat our runner-up. No way, no how.

MTSU should benefit from App State being on a skeleton coaching crew. If both were at full strength I would pick App in a landslide. Hell, I would pick App in a landslide over anyone in our league this year. They have a balanced team with a lot of depth and talent. Again, we may not see it since their janitor is going to be calling plays in the bowl game.

RE: Rick Stockstill CUSA coach of the year.
Don't the CUSA Coaches vote on the COY award? You got 14 of them, right? That would be a Big Double Yes! So, looks like the majority of your own Head Coaches agree that Rick Stockstill is the 2018 Coach of the Year! You think maybe the majority of our coaches figured out that a Coach who had 30+ players with 5 or 6 years of "EXTENDED ELIGIBILTY" should have won the Championship? You are dang right they did. UAB is a Great Story overcoming a Death Sentence and rising from the Ashes. And, Clark is a really good coach. But, Stock deserved COY.

The conference did not blow this, the coaches did. This was voted on by the coaches. Every coach has their reason why they voted the way they did. I think part of it is "enough about UAB" syndrome. Honestly, I think Stockstill did a great job this year. I just think the coaches gave it to the 2nd most deserving guy.

And completely transparent... Clark won the award in 2014 when we 6-6. Marshall went 13-1 that year. I think part of the reason why Clark won is because of the shutdown. So more tend to play a role in these selections than coaching performance.

Clark deserved it no question. Good coach. Maybe the league coaches thought with the extra recruiting leeway and 37 seniors, it wasn’t that hard to win the league title. Sour grapes maybe?
