IDK if I'd call that a solid hire, 3 years as head coach and only 1 winning season. Hopefully Austin Peay is just a tough place to win.

Apparently it was the toughest place to win in the nation.

Not exactly, but kinda. ECU physicians Account will transfer 10 million to Athletics before being sold to Vidant Medical for $480 million. Enrollment is only down slightly this year from last year by a few hundred.

Your Chancellor told the local paper in August “We’re trying to do Division I athletics at a very high level,” Staton said. “Dave Hart summed it up as succinctly as anyone has: ‘Our expectations for success are not matched by our financial resources.’ There it is in a nutshell. So, we’ve got to raise more and we’ve got to invest more. We’ve got to win because, as you know, that is certainly a part of revenue generation as a part of athletics. We’ve got a lot of things we have to do, but at the end of the day, all of this could really have been plotted out, and should have been seen in some cases, once the decision was made to leave Conference USA and join the American Athletic Conference.”

No big deal, ECU can have a yard sale or something once you burn through the medical funds.

clt says you don’t know what we offered, and we aren’t mortgaging our schools future on a FB coach.

900k-1.1 million a year for 5 years. We didn’t mortgage anything. The sell of ECU Physicians was already agreed to before any of the this which adds $480 million to the University’s financials. And ECU is in the middle of a 500 million dollar capital campaign. The financial health of the University is fine and looking great for the years to come. The only issue is state funding to University and specifically the med school which UNCC fans should known all to well that State school’s outside Chapel Hill and N.C. State get screwed on funding. Also, as part of the 500 million dollar campaign is funding for an IPF for ECU Athletics.

clt hopes the best for you guys! Hope you will be around for us to schedule a game in 5 years or so.

Sounds good, ECU still has some FCS openings then. Charlotte will fill them nicely.

FCS games have proven to be dangerous for you guys, haven’t they? Is that why you’re avoiding them?

It looks like ECU is gonna end up paying him $1.3 million which is about what I expected but maybe on the low end slightly. I wonder if we got off easy because UNCC pulled their offer thereby limiting Houston's bargaining power because I thought we'd likely have to pony up around 1.5 to get him.

That is what we think too. I am not sure we will ever know exactly what the offer was, but clearly Houston was shopping offers in an effort to get schools to bid up on him. Houston's approach to this burned his JMU bridge, so staying there was out. Charlotte withdrew its offer, so that was out. App is not ready yet. I think ECU was in this race alone at the end. Of course I am assuming you have a signed contract. If not, App could get back into this.

Dangerous for Scotty Montgomery. ECU was 20 something and 1 against FCS until Mo came to town. Pair how bad of a program Montgomery created with playing the FCS National Champions and HBCU National Champions back 2 back years and Mo couldn't overcome it.

Historically we haven't played FCS though, that was something another bonehead Jeff Compher decided to start. Going forward we have OOC games against SEC, ACC, Big 12, MWC, CUSA and BYU. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the 4 FCS games on future schedules replaced with the mentality of the current admin and new coaching staff.

clt says wealthier teams will often pay lower level teams to come play at their stadium as a warm up game. This is why you are coming to Charlotte.

I'll make the trip to the ECU @ Charlotte game... do you think your stadium will have been expanded at all by then?

I have only seen it in person once... came down for the ECU/Charlotte baseball series and we tailgated right next to the Jerry Richardson statue. It's really, really nice. Just really, really tiny.

At a minimum that game will have temp seating like we did for app. I feel pretty confident it will be expanded by then though.

I have hope. As a former season ticket holder that lost faith in Judy and decided spend my money elsewhere.. I have not felt as positive about our athletic department and its direction since pre-2005.

There will at least be temp seating like the App game this past season. We could add probably 7.5K-10K.

Maybe it wasn't a Jerry statue... there was some sort of statue. It was a few years ago, memory is hazy. But on the map I can pinpoint exactly where we parked.

clt says that is one of TWO Matthew Stafford statues we have around the stadium. No, you cannot hide money.
