RE: This will make some JMU fans unhappy
Technically several are Jesuit but it was the move from publics. Which is why Butler was later invited and several other non-Catholics and non-Jesuits have been rumored. But carryon about the land grant in Storrs that they separated from in the first place. I think they would bring Dayton or Richmond in first. Guess we'll see.

The time it is going to take LU to get really good, to have difficulty in scheduling is years, many years away. The recent conversation is the reverse. That LU has nothing to gain by playing JMU now. JMU is that good and LU is trying to advance to being consistent, which immediately comes after being good, to "get really good".
Same boat we're in, only they're putting more resources behind the move to make it happen. If you want to be big time, you have to act like it. They're doing that.
Who is?
Liberty. Trying to get really good. So good nobody will schedule you good. And trying to be consistently good. Both of us have been "good" at some point, the trick is doing it consistently. ODU hasn't been able to do that yet. The jury is still out on LU.
Same challenge for LU in being consistent. In the past, LU has played up to better teams, losing mostly to superior teams, unless really strong teams such as Auburn which was one sincere ass whipping LU loss this year. And then LU, in the FCS past, will lose a game to a team LU was supposed or favored to win. With very modest FCS success, LU has accelerated the process by the indy FBS path. True the school has resources that give it an advantage. And their ideal is to basically bypass the "earning of stripes" that GaSo and App St did with their FCS dominance. LU never dominated in FCS and in 11 years only one FCS playoff appearance.
LU providing modern, appealing facilities, and hiring a former SEC coach, makes a statement to recruits. It's a model no other school, I am aware of, has taken or successful in the process. It is going to be fun to monitor their approach. And the better LU gets, and the unexpected games it wins, builds an intense dislike against the school. And that will put butts in the seats and bring eyeballs on the tube.

UCONN basketball to the Big East, and football going Indie or dropping back to FCS, opening a spot in the AAC for JMU.
And who in the JMU admin has the gonads to take that leap of faith. JMU WAS the prime choice years ago with good fan support and a good wining tradition. ODU, LU, App St, GaSo, GaSt all have left JMU in FCS. One could argue JMU was equally as qualified as App St and GaSo to become SBC members. But that train has left the station years ago. And their fans are left today to justify being FCS champions, which is commendable, as their ultimate goal. Fortunately ODU and LU has higher and different aspirations. Fact is the acceleration of LU or ODU should motivate the other. It serves both for each team to advance, in the FBS. Not FCS like poor JMU.

I was in Harrisonburg last night and drove by the construction site for the new basketball arena. Guess who's building it? S.B. Ballard. Those folks are busy! Hope he makes a bunch of money on that job so he can donate it to the Foreman Field project!

The last AAC adds were Tulane and Tulsa (Both Private). Does that make Rice a leading candidate?

Why? They have awful $$$$ sports. AAC has Houston does it not? No need to add Rice for that market.

As long as Houston is in the AAC they likely wont be adding anyone. Id guess they need to lose 3 out of UConn, Cincy, UCF, Houston, Memphis before they add a new team. Those are pretty much the teams that bring value to the conference, so I would hope rather than the AAC just backfill, at that point common sense would prevail and the fabled "geographically sensible" conferences could form.

RE: This will make some JMU fans unhappy
Think you guys/gals might be losing sight on a repeat of history. If you recall, we moved up to CUSA, but with all their best programs moving elsewhere, the CUSA now is shell of its former self. If the AAC were to lose enough teams where we are in the conversation (I doubt we are first choice) then the AAC is going to also not going to be as strong. It will be better for us geographically, but for us to think the AAC is some holy ground for us to move up to is misleading.
If the AAC losing so many members that JMU moves in, then you know for sure a massive geographical realignment should take place, since the AAC will be no better than CUSA/Sunbelt from a performance standpoint.

JMU directly to the AAC is a complete pipe dream.
And it completely ignores why many of the AAC teams were so eager to move from CUSA when it added FCS and start up schools. If they couldn't tolerate it before, why in the world would they want to do that now? Crazy talk.

Honestly, even if its a lateral move, but with better travel I'll be fine with that.

RE: This will make some JMU fans unhappy
I recently heard a rumor that the MWC wants to extend it's footprint to the east coast. Possibly 12 teams in all with a division championship.
If ODU was invited it would extend our brand across the entire nation and give ODU a presence in California's hot recruiting grounds.
The idea was floated around before ODU made the jump to CUSA but it was between 2 conferences.

Yeah I doubt Temple or ECU are moving up and both are closer to Charlotte. Navy would probably bail and go Indy if there were a mass exodus but then it’d at least make it easier to get them on the schedule.

I would assume the east coast side would schedule within its' division, with maybe 1 or 2 trips to the west coast, followed by an East, West Championship game.
Nevertheless, someday I'd like to see ODU to play the fabled Boise State Bronco's.

It took years of therapy for me to get over Culuko. Thanks for bringing it up. Ha Ha. Whenever I’m dissatisfied with our BB program, I think about JMU’s, then I feel better.

I remember driving back to VB after that game. I don't remember walking back to my car. It was one of the most surreal moments of my life. One I hope to never repeat.

That loss was 1000000000% on Purnell. In the two regular season games, and thru 3/4 of that game Odell had scored over 100 points against the Pukes. They had no answer for him. However, he barely got his hands on the ball in the Pukes comeback. Purnell could not coach the team to calm down and get the ball to Odell.
