Interesting take on the French president and the current strike over the increase in the diesel tax.

"...No matter that Paris has been rendered almost uninhabitable by poisonous diesel fume miasma, and many other cities, too. Or that almost 1,000 French people die every week from respiratory diseases (also maybe smoking too much). Or that Renault and PSA Peugeot Citroen make a lot of diesel cars. Forget all that. But more than anything else, political science 101 folks, do NOT raise taxes on fuel, because it is politically explosive....

His set-piece TV interview the other day on an aircraft carrier with a Rafale jet as a prop was yet another display of imperium and grandiosity. He practically spoke without stopping. He has no humility in his body. Not even pretend humility. His hypomanic schedule in which he is constantly in motion on his fleet of jets, announcing a European army one day, lecturing the Africans the next, telling the Brits to suck-up the Brexit ‘backstop’ the next, is actually unsettling. He tweets like Trump then disappears when Paris is burning...."

Health risks are multiplied. Smoking makes you 10 times more likely to develop lung cancer. High levels of pollutants in the air makes you 10 times more likely to develop lung cancer. Radon gas concentrations in the ground (very likely to be found in the low areas beneath mountain ranges and in foothills of mountain ranges) makes you 10 times more likely to develop lung cancer. Where 2 of those factors are present you are 100 times more likely to develop lung cancer. Where 3 of those factors are present you are 1000 times more likely to develop lung cancer.

I think Paris is the perfect cultural and environmental mixture for the rates of respiratory disease that they have. It is likely to have radon, the culture still smokes, and the air quality is lousy. The tax is just frustrating.

For all the environmental preaching by the Europeans, I would always come back from Europe and take a few days to get all the soot out of my nose. They are sooo far behind us in cleaning up the air. We weren't that bad in the 60s and 70s with leaded gas.

If you want fresh air and nice clean beaches go to Tel Aviv. You'll get a great breakfast with a wide variety of fresh fruits, great cheeses, and smoked mackerel. Lunch stinks as it is usually a green salad with balsamic dressing, but dinner will be sumptuous as well. It's safer than you might think and the people are great. Just wear your passport and wallet in an underbelt inside your shirt and keep your shirt tucked in.

But as far as Europe goes, they've been hypocritically preaching to America ever since we bailed their butts out of the Great War, let alone the Second one. They owe us, and resent us. And the damned U.N. is nothing more than a courtesy provided by Uncle Sam's cash where their sorry butts and the ignoramuses of the third world come to tell us how bad we are for feeding them, defending them, and footing the bill for almost all of it.

After we clean up our higher ed system we ought to cut out the U.N. next.

Shalom!

I post on a Euro message board and many Euros seem obsessed and fascinated with the USA. They seem to be much more aware of the things going in the USA than Americans are of issues over there.....unless you have a terrorist attack in Nice or something.

It's hard for US news outlets to find time for European news when they spend 24/7/365 on "Orange man bad."

I watched CNN for three hours a few days ago. It was nothing but straight anti-Trump ranting. At the same time, a fairly new and at least theoretically very capable Norwegian destroyer was sinking after colliding with a commercial tanker near Bergen.

CNN is unwatchable due to the reason you mentioned above. Heck, even Larry King agrees. I try to get some European perspective via the BBC News and The Economist. As far as South America news I have probably 50 Spanish language channels and it seems each nation has it's own channel so I try to watch those some just to see what's going on and what we here in the States aren't hearing about or how the reporting differs, etc. Of course, I struggle with the different language but with the help of close captioning I can understand a decent percentage of what's being reported on the Spanish language channels.

Well, well, well---I thought Mach told us there was nothing to these riots.

PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron visited the graffiti-damaged Arc de Triomphe monument and held an emergency meeting on security Sunday, a day after central Paris was hit by France's worst riot in a generation.

Macron, who was meeting with his prime minister and interior and environment ministers, has vowed that those responsible for the violence and the damages will pay for their actions. His tour of France's beloved monument came just hours after he flew back from the G-20 summit in Argentina.

Ah, isn't globalism beautiful this time of year?

This is what alt-leftism always results in. Do we have to go down the same path? Tom, mach? Or can you just admit you are wrong now, and save us the trouble?

I saw a video the other day of lines and lines of cars that had been burnt to a crisp, that went on for miles. Can't seem to find it now. Google and twitter intentionally break their algorithms to cover for the alt-left, so I am not surprised.

Beleaguered workers? Hells bells they only work a 30 hour week. From the time I was 22 until I retired I worked minimally 50 hours a week and most weeks pushed well over 60.

Perhaps if they worked a bit more they would have more to spend, and less time to loot and riot?

This is your socialist future America! Wake up!
