1. Jet sweeps - McClelland is great in space. Why not put him (or Jayshon) in the slot and create some havoc that way? Even if you don't give him the ball, just sending a guy in motion often gets the LBs moving a different direction. This is big staple for many teams in CFB and we don't use it at all.

2. Speed option - I know you don't want Ridder taking too many hits but another simple way to get outside quickly

3. You can still run counters, misdirections, and quick pitches out of shotgun. Maybe try some Pistol action.

Hopefully with Ridder having a year experience under his belt we see some new things next year. But I don't want to sound too negative. It's been a phenomenal year.

My thoughts on each point:

1. I too wondered about jet sweeps, but thinking this out I have to wonder if the coaches are concerned about the protection from the perimeter receivers and the offensive line. Blocking the edges is the major component of jet sweeps and jet power reads. This again goes to develop of the offensive line and the wide receiver group.

2. I made the comment a week or two ago on here that I did not understand what happened to the speed option. We were running it to perfection in the UCLA game and had the Bruin defense gassed in the second quarter. We went away from it in the second half and we hadn't seen it since all season. A speed option is tailor-built for a dual threat QB like Ridder and the backs we have.

3. Agree.

In response to point 1:

In general in sports you need to mix things up. One play here or there with a different scheme keeps the defense guessing. It may move the linebackers. Put some pressure on the defense.

One thing I did like even though he doesn’t throw a real precise deep ball, they kept taking some shots down the field. That keep them guessing. That’s what kills me about our basketball team offense, we typically just walk it up over the years and the defense just get to relax. Why not probe, RUN Down the court, and see if somethings there. Make the D get mentally fatigued from constantly reading the offense etc.

I think I lost you a little when you mixed up your sports, but I think I get the gist of what you're saying.

Haha doesn’t every thread have something to with Micks offense? :)
Happy Thanksgiving guys!
