Many positives going forward. The difference in this game was 3pt shooting. I bewith German Huskies run away with this game. Lacey James looks much improved. Give Jaylen Key a few more games to get his rhythm back. I would like to see a lineup going forward of German, Thorpe, Bradley, Key and James. This team will have a chance at a MAC title. We’ve been asking for offense and this team has a solid 4-5 double digit scorers every time out.
Thanks Dekalb- 1 agree 100% Lacey James looked much better tonight. Fluid and in rhythm.

Entertaining game , Huskies should have won by ten even without German. year 8 and the mental defensive lapses continue leaving 3 pt shooters open. Effort is there but can not overcome continual mental mistakes.

Totally agree 222, but please let’s temper this a little bit. There are 25+ games left, WITH German how many times, realistically do you think two guys score over 24 not named German? I will place a bet on zero. How many times will two guys score 24 and one of them be German and the other not? I probably don’t have to raise too many fingers on my right hand.

And, to be honest with ourselves, Thorpe scored 9 in the overtimes and Bradley scored 11. The two guys with 24 or more is just slightly misleading. We only scored 65 points in regulation.

If anything we seem to be a decent 8-9-10 deep in rotation but I hardly see 4-5 scoring in double digits once Geno is back unless he gets his assists average to on the low side 6 or above——and there has never been any indication that he will get anywhere near that.

Last year, German, Bradley and Thorpe all averaged double figures. I don’t think it’s a stretch to believe Key or James or both can join that list. It’s always been my opinion that if NIU can make 8-10 threes they will win. They haven’t been able to do that but I believe they will this year.

I don’t believe you can stop decent 3pt shooting teams from making them so you must make some yourself. The NIU women’s team is the perfect example of this. Against Yale they took 30 threes and only made 10 that is not good but they won because Yale couldn’t keep up. The 3pt shot always gives you a chance.

Or 33.3% from 3 which is not good but volume comes into play.

NIU women’s team doesn’t shoot 3’s at a great % but they make a lot a game and thus they are a top MAC team. NIU men have made the fewest every year of Monty’s tenure and thus they have been one of the worst MAC teams. I believe they won’t shoot a great % but will consistently make way more than their average of 5 a game and you will see them rise in the MAC standings.

Amazing ascension that team has made with a relatively short D1 history, and now the best in the Horizon.
