Oh varsity mentioned on Twitter that, top to bottom, the league has been formidable this year. Something like only 2 teams outside Ken Pom top 150

In fairness, Oh Varsity said that it's been deep. And that's true - it has been deeper than the past few years. Crowing about "only" two teams outside the top 150 is still far from formidable.

Those were absolutely awful additions to the conference. Neither should have been added. A 10 team conference without those two looks stronger and a lot less watered down.

If conference championship game rules were different around 2011-2012 then there was no way Tulsa or Tulane are added. ECU was decent at football and has a large fan base.

Yep, Mick now has some company. Uconn cooled off, 29% from 3, but still a ton of fouls.

UCF goes down; no undefeated teams in AAC conference play now.

I'm fine with the ECU addition because they have strong fan support and upside in football...but Tulane and Tulsa need to be removed.

It is Temple’s league to win. Already won at Witchita State. They do not play at UC. They still host UC and UCF.

In my view Houston and Temple are in best spot to win the conference and make the tournament. UC’s non-conference resume is better than UCF’s. Both already have bad losses. UCF has a brutal final six game games. Could easily see them losing four or five and falling out of the mix.

Fair assessment at this point.

For us as Bearcat fans (or any fans) we tend to evaluate on the most recent games. Since blowing out Tulane, this team has lost to an inferior ECU and struggled against middle of the pack AAC teams. So I would agree, if UC continues to play as they have the past couple of weeks Houston and Temple are favorites.

I'm not convinced that UC can't turn this around though and play better. If so, we'll look back and be pleased that the Bearcats were able to weather the storm against Tulsa, UCONN and USF before working out some defensive and offensive problems on the way to a regular season title. Surely the teams we saw pre-conference: Ole Miss, UCLA and X were about as good as the conference teams we saw the past week and a half and UC was able to control those games and win handily.

I'm wondering if our matchup zone defense is easier to attack for our conference opponents due to their familiarity with it. We were ranked I believe 15th in adjusted defense coming out of non-conference play and have dropped like a rock since. Last year I don't think it mattered because we had two elite defenders who were incredibly intelligent with their ability to make the right switches and also erase the mistakes of others. No one on this team is anywhere close to the ability of Gary or JE3 on the defensive end; thus why they both have guaranteed NBA contracts.

I think this may be part of it. This team hasn't adjusted to playing the matchup zones against teams that have some experience playing against it. Our rotations and communication hasn't been what it needs to be. This team needs to be a top 10-15 defense to reach its ceiling. I too think they can get it turned around and frankly, I still have more faith in them winning the league than anyone else.

Hopefully not the same faith you had in the Bengals reaching the playoffs 03-nutkick 05-stirthepot COGS

If you told me Dalton and Green would be out for the season with several weeks left to play my faith would not have been what it was.

Here's the thing about this UC team. The offense has pretty much been a best case scenario from what I expected. They've been hovering around a top 40 offense. Going into the year I thought there was a chance they'd really struggle on that end. That's incredibly encouraging.

The defense has pretty much been a worse case scenario the last few weeks. They are down to 36 in kenpom adjusted defense.... No UC team has finished that low since the NIT team. Something tells me that Mick and this staff will get the defense playing better. Right now UC is the second best team in the conference according to kenpom and the best team in the conference according to sagarin. Fix the defensive issues and they are a legitimate top 25 team. I have confidence in this staff to figure it out on that end. They always do.
