DePaul (10-5) 79
24 St. John's (14-3) 71

Anyone remember the last time DePaul won on the road against a ranked team? Not me. They are 10-5 (2-2) but had a 186 RPI going into this game.

That's funny. I was thinking that I'd like for us to get another shot at Miss. St.

I guess it's all in how you look at it...

Ponds was a late scratch for St. John's, so that one isn't as surprising as it appears.

Xavier beats Butler by one. Winning conference games is hard.

Things getting ugly in Morgantown. Decent chance Huggy Bear goes winless in January. Already 0-4 in conference play.

Life for any non-football WVU athlete is tough in the Big 12.

A little... The difference is that Huggs is (A) a "native son" and WVU alum, (B) has taken WVU to a Final Four and 3 "Sweet Sixteens" in four years in his tenure, and © this current team has got some serious player issues. So, the fans here aren't turning on Huggs over this at the moment.

It is going to be pretty easy to score tickets to the home games, though...

It's interesting that UC's Kenpom rating went up, albeit only by .02, while UCONN's stayed the same.

Poor ESPN. They love Dook so much it is sickening. All they do is talk about their upcoming games, Zion W this, Zion W that. It is not even close to sports "news". All for ratings. If someone wanted to know about the general college basketball landscape they would not get any hint of it watching that station. It just gets old. I saw ZW's passes vs WF. He can play, but I dont want to only hear about 1 team and mostly 1 guy.

I hate Duuk but Duke played with two freshmen starters sidelined in Cam Reddish and Tre Jones.

Good point. The "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say. #25 IU lost by double digits at home last night to Nebraska. Apparently, the Hoosiers are battling 3 or 4 injuries and have lost three in a row now.

Fortunately, UC hasn't lost significant minutes to injury to date. If this stomach virus has left the locker room I would expect a better performance tonight against a suddenly competitive USF. UC is two come from behind overtime games away from an 0 and 3 streak in conference play. Beating USF tonight will likely require better defense and some scoring as the Bulls took the Owls to the wire in overtime @ Temple Saturday.

That Duke team is so incredibly talented. Most talented team in college basketball since at least the Anthony Davis Kentucky team. Kenpom has a Kenpom player of the year metric that considers a ton of things: Zion Williams is #1, RJ Barrett is #6. As far as offensive rating according to kenpom Williamson is 1, RJ Barrett is 36 among guys with at least a 28% usage rate (Cumberland is 29). I use the kenpom numbers here because it isn't just a media being obsessed with Duke creation.

However, Duke has dropped to number 2 in kenpom adjusted efficiency. They host #1 Virginia this weekend. All that doesn't mean Duke will win it all. They are young and still developing...but the talent level on that team is pretty extraordinary. Likely 3 top 5 picks.

RE: 2018-2019 College Hoops Thread
Lunardi now has four teams in his bracket from the American (As many as the new Big East for those who think it's head and shoulders above the AAC). UC is a #9 playing #8 Iowa. Way too early to pass judgment of course but at least the AAC is being recognized as stronger than predicted pre-season.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...acketology

Alternately, I think the American is slightly undervalued currently in the A.P. and Coaches' Polls. Houston should be in the 10-15 range; Temple and UCF both have a case to be ranked at this point with just two losses. And UC could climb back in the ranking pretty easily still.

It will help the 'Cats considerably if the conference can provide more than one ranked opponent the rest of the way. One thing about the old Big East--it was winning or losing to ranked teams so much that losses weren't RPI killers.
