If you are a college coach in a sport like tennis, for example, and most of the good Americans go to a handful of schools, you have two options:

1. Recruit the next level of Americans;
2. Recruit foreign players who are more talented than the next-level Americans.

Option (1) will get you fired when you cannot win (especially when the other schools are getting those foreign players).

A smart coach will choose Option (2).

After a solid 3rd place effort at the C-USA Championships, the Rice women move up 4 places to #4 in the latest NCAA South Central rankings.

Bizarrely, the Rice men drop to 11th after their 3rd place in Boca Raton.

The South Central Championships will take place on Friday, November 9 in College Station. The top 2 finishing schools will advance automatically to the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

The NCAA will select 13 at-large teams to go with the 18 automatic qualifiers (2 each from 9 regions).

Also, the top 4 individual runners who are not part of one of the advancing teams will be selected to compete at the NCAA meet.
