Hearing the ads running every day drives me CRAZY. Attack attack attack. I have no idea what these candidates actually stand for.

Look at the news. Look at this message board. Everything is an attack, a scandal, or a delay.

It's been a long time since a politician ran his/her campaign primarily on the issues. However, even if you did see a few doing that I'd suspect that large portions of the electorate will assume that the issues based candidate will not be an independent thinker if elected. The party leadership holds way too much power - which means in reality the 2 political parties hold too much power.

It's not supposed to be the GOP government or the DEM government - just the government. Unfortunately, we cede our power to the political parties who technically is very much like the Fed in being an entity that is outside of elections.

Liberals aren't necessarily supporters of ANTIFA. However, "progressives" seem to find no issue with their activities. I don't equate being liberals with being progressives. Progressives have always tended toward socialism and thus state power, liberals have not. Many people who think they are liberals are really progressives and vise versa.
