Football Coaching Stability
Coach Houston told Dave Thomas on Monday that he’ll be going to the Citadel at VMI game in Lexington on Saturday. He wants to visit his last recruiting class and their families, who are seniors this year.
Shows you the kind of man he is.

It was rumored on this message board roughly 6-9 months ago.
I did a quick search through most popular threads with "Houston" or "MH" in the title and could not find it. I might be twisting the rumor more but I'm confident it was more than just buying a home. Either the search function is garbage or I suck at utilizing it, maybe someone else remembers what was exactly said.
Well, much the same can be said of my search to see if our coach owns property in either Harrisonburg or Rockingham County. I did a quick search on my phone and came up empty. Just to make sure, I put in some close friends, and found their property. Again, it was a very quick search and I did try Amanda's name as well. I usually don't do a lot of digging with my phone, just easier for me on my laptop. Please feel free to search. Possibly they haven't closed on a property yet, but when someone says custom built home, normally they own the property first and then build which usually shows up. Also, some times these take a long time to get entered.

I just don't see him telling recruits parents that he will be here for their sons and then up and leaving. I think he honors his commitments. Maybe he will be our Jimmye Laycock. Wouldn't that be great. Change the name of the stadium or field for him.

RE: Football Coaching Stability
Ironically Mike Houston may never get a P5 head coaching offer straight from JMU (without a stop in between) the same way the AAC may never be part of the P6, and JMU may never be added to the AAC and all for silly/nonsensical perception reasons not legitimate reasons.
Maybe all 3 can be together in the near future and stay together and prosper. Houston as Coach of JMU as a member of the AAC- ultimately a successful conference in the P6 under a new expanded playoff system...

As I recall, around the time (maybe a month or so) before the contract extension details were released it was rumored that he was building a custom built home by somebody on this board. I think they stated they had insight as to a contractor or somebody working on the home/property that would know. I think somebody else was able to support the claim made as they also had knowledge. I recall it being more than just an unsubstantiated rumor.

Signing the 10 year extension eased concerns cause it was just so long. I mean he could have signed for 5-7 years and the recruiting concern goes away. The rumors of him building a custom home are nice. The previous quotes were nice. Points about his family starting school and some consistency were nice. This quote is nice.
I have feared letting my guard down since Maggie broke my heart in 1st grade and divorced me right after our playground wedding. However, I am turning the corner and thinking Houston could be here for the long haul.

I heard the same thing but turns out he was building a custom house for his dog. Also heard he bought local cemetery plots, but turns out those were for his son's gold fish. The latest rumor is a 25 year pre-paid DNR subscription.

Houston’s staff is mostly in their 60s and all have been at big programs or head coaches at some point so been there done that for them. I think they have to be liking the stability at JMU as well this late in life. Houston makes a good living at JMU and they win. He gets good kids here and JMU is not a hard school to recruit to. Maybe more money and a low level FBS program lure him away at some point but I don’t see it as a sure thing.
I worry about ECU, APP and UNC. Those are jobs that could attract him.
Not true. Going by their bios, it appears 5 of the 10 assistants are in their 20s-30s: Tesh, Mines, Sims, Dudzik, Wright. Early 50s Beilen, late 50s Kirkpatrick.
Only 3 of the 10 appear to be in their 60s: Trott, Hanson, Shankweiler. Hanson and Shankweiler are probably pushing 70, if not already.

Check again. I believe Kirkpatrick is now in his 60s. If not, 59 is close enough to 60 percent o count.
I forgot you are the fact police. What I should have said is the coaches that matter i.e. the o and d coordinators plus o and d line coaches are in their 60s. Remember, Sabin told Houston this summer to always hire experienced coaches at those positions and recruiters/younger coaches at the other coaching positions.

Its not about being the fact police, its saying something remotely accurate. Even if you count Kirkpatrick, it still isn't half his staff in their 60s..

My point is the four main assistants are in their 60s and all have been coaches at much bigger programs. They have been there done that. I wasn’t thinking about position coaches. Yes, I used the word staff. My mistake for doing so.
Dude, you seem to take great pride in picking apart my posts. Do I know you? Is there some sort of axe you have to grind with me?
Maybe you should focus on sharing your own thoughts rather than nit picking others?

I think you knocked over his ice cream cone when he was little. It turned out to be frozen yogurt and has never forgiven you since then.

I don't see coach making a change to a school with this type of scandal, and if he does it'll be UNC. But that's just me.
Because we all know UNC is scandal-free. L.O.L.

You must have misread my post. I said if he does go to a school with a scandal, it will be UNC.

You're right, I totally misread your post. Makes a LOT more sense now. My bad.
I don't think he'll go to either place. He's a guy that likes to see things done the right way and I'd be shocked if he took a chance at a place that loves to cut corners. Yes, it's UNC, but there are consequences that could ruin any coach. I think he would absolutely do his best to keep the program clean, but there are too many outside sources out of a coach's control that could absolutely ruin any good he was trying to do.
