OT My Trip to Mexico Beach and Northward...
First time on a helicopter...Took charcoal and misc. stuff to Mexico Beach, and small communities North that have had no relief. (yes, I was a flying furnace!!!04-cheers)

No way to describe Mexico Beach on the ground....took some nice clothes that were originally destined for the Salvation Army (and shoes/shoes/shoes my wife and I really never use), and folks grabbed them up quicker than the food.

Now I understand why folks DUCK (quack quack) when departing a helicopter---while you don't have to, your brain instinctively yells out "DUCK!" 03-lmfao

I also got to yell "get to da choppah", which drew a few laughs and a few eye rolls.04-rock

Had some cold beanie weenies and warm Co-Cola with a family outside Wewahitchka who said we were the first people they had seen (yes, I am a people!) since the storm.

Lastly, drank a case of beer with the inmates from a correctional facility near Wewa----Just Kiddin' 04-cheers----actually, took them a buncha water to use while correcting them as often as I could! Pretty good guys until you realize the guy next to you probably murdered his whole family.

That is all!!

thanks for the info. Those folks probably appreciate what you did more than you know. I know that i am forever thankful to all of the groups that came and helped clean up the coast after Katrina. I lost my home and everything else during Katrina and i don't wish that on anyone.

Thanks...I'm trying to laugh on the outside while cryin' on the inside...

Those folks were like my ancestors; gritty, tough, never complaining, lower middle class farmers who don't like to ask for help. The PRIDE the whole families displayed was genuine and hereditary. I hugged every last g*ddamned one of 'em, and no one gave a sh*t if you were Demo or Rep, black, white, Christian, Jew or Atheist!

Too bad it takes destruction to bring out the best in us...sorry for the rant.04-cheers

RE: OT My Trip to Mexico Beach and Northward...
Tiny towns like Alford FL are really suffering...folks are taking baths AND drinking water from their ponds and nearby lakes!

IF IF IF I get a chance to go back, I'm going to some of those rural areas that have seen NOBODY because they are not on the radar, literally and figuratively.

Just think...weeks with no water, electricity or phone service...but in the middle of nowhere!

May be wrong, but the death toll in the end is gonna be much higher than 35.
