RE: Kudos to Marcus Childers

He is still very inconsistent and often a tad late with his read. But it’s the first game I have seen a measurable improvement from him. Good game Marcus!
Sutton Smith....you are the man dude. Unreal.
Something clicked at the end of that EMU game for Childers. He is starting to get a pocket presence and a better intuition for when to tuck and run. Those quicker and more committed decisions are causing an increase in his speed also. Hopefully he can continue to improve, BYU will be a great test

I'm a big Childers critic. I rewatched the game from home and the WR did him no favors. He played a well rounded game and made some good progress

For the critics out there I want to remind everyone he is only a sophmore and he has two more years to get even better. Don't give up on this kid as his stats at this point in time in his career aren't that different from previous successful QB's we've had here.

RE: Kudos to Marcus Childers
As much as I think Childers still isn't a good D1 QB, the WR's dropped a LOT of balls on Saturday that should have been big gains. He's still making a lot of bad decisions, but he played better Saturday than I'd seen him.

Even for his critics, I think we've seen enough to say he at least has the potential to develop into a very good MAC QB. The tools are there, and while I don't think any one thing is 'amazing' he can be above average in all areas with continuous improvement.

Correct if this is wrong but I also believe that in high school him running the ball was their main offense...
I see him as being a quick learner
Anybody notice his mechanics when passing?

RE: Kudos to Marcus Childers
I agree that Childers showed more progress against Ohio and I sure hope we see continued progress.
Kudos and congratulations to Sutton Smith; he was named the MAC West Defensive player of the week for the second time. That sack-strip-recovery with 10:38 left in the game was huge and set up the O for the go-ahead TD!

But, keep in mind that Ohio is the mirror image of the Huskies - all offense and no defense. Before yesterday, Bobcats had given up 35 points per game. The Huskies are the first team that Ohio held to just 24 points. Good thing NIU is the first team to keep Ohio from scoring more than 21.
True, it was strength against strength and weakness vs. weakness. Logically you could predict a close game.
But the key part is the NIU offense moved down the field for a TD when it absolutely needed 1. And the NIU defense stopped Ohio when it was needed. NIU keeps winning those battles.

This year's Huskies have not had a tune-up game to refine their skills, so it was good to see the offense finally click. After seeing Huskies face the defenses of Iowa and Utah, the Ohio D seemed like it was moving in slow motion.
