What I thought was funny was that the numbers on the side of the sleeve were larger Than the number on the Helmet. Why would you need both?
I think the old school helmet numbers were for teams that actually didn’t have numbers on their sleeves back in the day and it helped pressbox personnel identify the players when lined up perpendicular to the pressbox.

The uniform game hasn’t hit its target yet this year.
Lots of different looks, but none of them have been any good.
So sayeth my wife who is the fashion judge for our family.

RE: UNIFORMS
I don't mind the occasional uniform change. Would prefer to limit it to one home game and one road game though. NO ONE will ever convince me that that going an entire home schedule without a single combination that gets represented more than once is a good idea. Even if I hate it, play the majority of home games with the same combo.

Im sure recruits loved sitting in Bridgeforth yesterday watching #2 JMU play the most mistake filled game ever and get upset by Elon.

Recruit: "They played terrible and lost to a team they should never lose to...but those unis were sick!!!! Where do I sign?????"

Alabama has one helmet that never changes, one decal on that helmet that never changes, one pair of pants with stripes that never changes, and two jerseys, one crimson and one white, with no lettering or stripes that again - never changes. And yet they ALWAYS have the best recruiting classes in the country and whenever you turn on an Alabama game you ALWAYS know that look is Alabama.

I never understand the argument that you have to use crazy uniforms to attract recruits when all the best teams in college football have traditional, iconic uniforms and they still manage to out recruit everyone.

Bottom line: RECRUITS CARE ABOUT WINNING. Drop the uniform gimmicks and win games.

Bravo sir. Excellent example. No joke. The focus (and expense)on uniforms is stupid. If I were a major donor I'd want to see some accountability regarding those expenses.

Major donors pay for those unis so I’m guessing they have a little say in approval of the design

Do they? There are budgeted expenses and then those that are extras funded by donors.

Yes they do.....ever heard of Alpha Dogs that is how different uniforms/helmet decals/etc...are funded. They ok the $$$ for that and are just fine with it....moving on.
