But I assume the NCAA can/will investigate these schools anyway? Until such time as the pretense of amateurism is dropped I hope they crack down on every guilty party - it will bring about reform faster!

Oh, yeah, I'm sure the NCAA is really serious about that. And I'm sure they'll thoroughly investigate all of the circumstances around all of these players who are offered $$$ by other schools but somehow end up at Duke or North Carolina!
Quote:Code said: "I know what he's asking for. This is the player's father. He's asking for opportunities from an occupational (perspective). He's asking for money in the pocket. And he's asking for housing for him and the family."
Townsend replied: "So, I've got to just try to work and figure out a way. Because if that's what it takes to get him for 10 months, we're going to have to do it some way."
Williamson committed to play for Duke on Jan. 20, after also considering Clemson, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Blue Devils signed the top three players in the 2018 ESPN 100 -- No. 1-ranked prospect RJ Barrett of Canada, No. 2 Williamson and No. 3 Cam Reddish of Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Dan Wetzel commented on this in his article about these disclosures in court:
Quote:And while the emergence of the Code-Townsend conversation should have sent a chill through Lawrence, the Duke factor may prove to be the Jayhawks’ get-out-of-jail-free card.
Does anyone out there believe the NCAA is really, truly going to investigate Duke? And not some cursory, rubber-stamp, we-found-nothing-now-please-enjoy-the-NCAA-tournament-starring-Zion-Williamson attempt, presented by all of the commercials starring Mike Krzyzewski.
If you go after Townsend for this phone call, then it leads you to Zion Williamson and that leads you to, well, what exactly?
If history is any indication, the NCAA wants no part of finding out, no part of finding anything – if there is anything – at Duke. In their minds, this entire operation needs white hats and black hats and there is none more unstained than Krzyzewski’s.

When the FBI is doing the investigation I seriously doubt anyone is really concerned about the NCAA which itself is as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

All of the acts mentioned in this thread occurred in the last five years. But if the NCAA sits on its hands for another two years from now, using the excuse that the federal investigation and trials are not yet over, then some of these acts will be beyond five years.
