I’d take Liberty before ODU.
I'd take Liberty all day and all night. If you get rid of some of the religious bigotry of some of the posters on this board there's no reason not to take Liberty.
There are non-religious reasons not to take liberty. They don't really fit the institutional profile of the league. They are not ranked by US News and are in a small mountain town. They are not what any of our schools would consider a peer institution. They fit the bill from the perspective of good enrollment numbers and athletics budget but their fan support is weak. They have a small stadium that they don't sell out. Ignoring the political issues surrounding the school they would be a candidate but probably not even in the top 10 of what I'd be looking for.

RE: ODU to the AAC
It's no secret that this conference is the goal. Glad you all noticed, at least.
Those of you criticizing the stadium - demolition of the sideline stands will happen after our last home game and will be built on an aggressive schedule to be ready by kickoff next year. Total project is roughly $65M, and there's talk of other improvements that haven't been made public yet. If we had some extra cash, there's design plans to build more. New capacity is only 22k.
I'm a bit surprised you all would rather have Liberty instead of ODU or JMU.
Lastly, I know this thread isn't serious. But glad you made it anyway.
Now on to ECU where nobody has any idea how this game will go. Hopefully it's another fun one. They are the closest FBS team to us (2 hour drive) and were supposed to be our new rival! Oh well

RE: ODU to the AAC
We are not going past 12 unless the networks really demand it. I could see "maybe" adding more basketball inventory with 2 additional teams. Football side really doesn't make sense unless it is Army and giving us "some" rights to that army/navy revenue. Or BYU probably always has an open invitation.
That said, I do like what ODU is doing. If they can get a stadium in the 35k seat range, probably a different ball game. If we ever need to add a member dropping below 12, I would think ODU would be a target.

RE: ODU to the AAC
I think it would depend on what long term goals the AAC has. If they are trying to get a solid program in every major market I think ODU would be a great fit. If they are trying to get the best G5 team out there for football and basketball, I think ODU is close but still has another step to take. Winning championships and beating more P5 teams is a must for ODU. ODU's stadium is coming down the first phase is happening this offseason, but yes I am really pushing for ODU to get to at least 32k but hopefully 35k.
If ODU can successfully turn the tide and ride the VT victory wave I think they could do big things. Time will tell.

Because ODU has the 3 million + Tidewater region in play without any competition for the entrainment $ other than minor league baseball and hockey. ODU should be the singular target for expansion in the AAC East.

Winning championships, going bowling regularly, impressive facilities, top 25 rank appearances and attendance is what will get the attention of Mike Aresco and other AAC decision makers, IMHO

We are nationally ranked in US News. ODU is just 215 which isn’t far from where we are. Plus we have been moving up the ranks. A few years ago we were just regionally ranked. And about the small town statement. Large cities don’t mean you command that market. Look what CUSA did, marketz did not workout for them.
https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/lib...sity-10392
I’m only correcting the misinformation this in no way means I want LU to join a conference. MWC and CUSA have weird TV deals for example we played at UNM yesterday and beat them but it was not on any TV. Our FB schedule would be crappy if we joined any other conference besides the AAC. I like having a few P5’s games every year.

Spent a few years working in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area. It's VT/ECU country, and it would take a lot to change that.

RE: ODU to the AAC
Whenever the conference is strategically looking at new adds ODU would be a very nice addition. Fertile recruiting area plus great TV market. They would be a natural rival for ECU. Much in the mold of a UCF and USF rivalry. That in my opinion is the last link this conference needs is geographic rivals. Also good cross over for Navy and close proximity to them as well. Smart money would have ODU as a high candidate. If we could add Army, ODU, Air Force and SDSU this conference would be lined up well for the future.

ODU would complete a nice looking link from ECU to UConn, it would ECU --2.5hrs--> ODU --4hrs--> Navy --2 hrs--> Temple --4.5hrs--> UConn

RE: ODU to the AAC
I've been calling for ODU for a while. The idea of Liberty in the conference is laughable, and everyone has gone over the reasons why. An online radical Christian school doesn't quite fit the culture, and good luck selling the presidents and alumni of schools like Temple, UConn, Cincinnati, Houston that a close association with extremists like that is a good idea.
ODU is a great fit. Big market, no competition, public research institution, great fan base.

Seconded. ODU-ECU becomes an easily road-trippable game for both fan bases and they share a geographic identity that could actually give you some synergy in the area. Also, and I know I tend to be the "UConn to the Big East" guy around here, but they'd add another women's lacrosse team out of the Big East (putting them back under the minimum for an autobid) to the AAC's soon-to-launch conference sport and give the conference three field-hockey-playing members of the Big East, putting them in the kind of position to potentially launch the sport themselves (and I know, big deal, but with UConn a top program the conference would probably like to get those NCs in-house).
Now, I'm not quite sure what scenario could arise necessitating the conference only add one or two members - the next round of expansion is probably if the Big 12 sheds their top tier or two and the AAC's rebuilding, but ODU is probably the team to go to in the east.

Still can't grasp the desire to add Air Force or go west. It just doesn't make any sense. Air Force isn't a strong enough program to warrant a football only invite, and why would SDSU have any desire to have their closest conference opponent, what, over a thousand miles away?
