Yeah, sure is stupid to question if there’s a correlation between Trump’s statements and people committing acts of violence that admit to be inspired by his statements.
Being that you referenced mostly dead people, we can’t exactly discuss how they could change their language to reduce the chance some whacko does something stupid because of it. For Trump, we can evaluate whether his statements create an environment that encourages this type of behavior, and it sure seems like it does. He calls the press the enemy of the people. He condones violence against protestors. He talks about immigrants invading our country. And on, and on. These are inflammatory things to say that appear to be inflaming existing tensions and inspiring whackos to take action. If this was a single, isolated incident and Trump didn’t have a history of saying things that made avowed white supremacists happy, then it would be stupid to suggest his statements are inflammatory. But that’s not the case. Let’s do a mental exercise. What if during Obama’s term we had seen a rash of violence against wealthy individuals as he kept talking about the rich not paying their fair share? Would it have been stupid to suggest that his rhetoric was contributing to those attacks?
Regardless of his intent, dude has needed to take a chill pill with how he talks for a while, and the NZ shooting is another example that reinforces that (e.g. his comment only a few hours after about invading immigrants).
One can (and should) criticize Trump for all manner of things but fallacious argument (post hoc ergo propter hoc) is still fallacious.
Should the next murderer who appears to be from the left end of the spectrum be deemed "inflamed" by Maxine Waters? Or can the next synagogue massacre (wherever it may occur on the globe, no less) be pinned on Ilhan Omar?
Appropriating other people's dead in a hurried striving to score little political gotcha points is indecent (to put it lightly) and should have been beneath the liberal commenters here.
If that next murderer on the left cites Maxine Waters as an inspiration because of X, Y, and Z, I don’t think it’s outlandish to suggest we evaluate X, Y, and Z and whether or not Waters should or shouldn’t adjust her actions or statements. This is certainly not pinning this on Trump - it is criticizing Trump for his language and statements because they appear to be used as motivation by people like this whacko.
If this was the first time Trump was being criticized for his language and its potential effect on people, I would understand your comment more, but it isn’t. I would much prefer that our President not provide statements that can easily be interpreted by whackos as an incitement to commit crimes, and Trump is not careful with his language. He should be, so that he doesn’t provide kindling to these fires.
David Duke has praised Trump for his statements. I posted an article that listed multiple instances where people evoked Trump’s name and positions to harass, attack, etc. others. There was a bomber that targeted critics of Trump in the media (which he constantly calls the enemy of the people). In all those instances, those same people have apparently been motivated by Trump’s words and statements. We should just ignore that? Or should we ask that our President perhaps evaluate how he states things?

If one ever bothered to read the manifesto this guy promulgated, instead of ranting tirelessly that it is because of Orange Man Bad, the NZ shooter stated his aim simply, starkly, and explicitly: to sow division in the US. To sow division so intense that it results in amazing conflict. Sad to see so many in (media and otherwise, even some in this thread) breathlessly indulging him.
Since some think the series of one word sentences so pendantic:

The distressing thing to me is how easily our young people buy whatever CNN wants to tell them, then come here and declare it as fact. Trump's a racist. He supports white supremacy. Don Lemon says so. End of story.

It means just what I’ve been saying with trump - she should be more thoughtful and careful with her statements, as they’re inflammatory. It means she is saying things that white supremacists take as fitting in with their ideaology, which should give someone pause.

I would have placed it earlier, in 1957 to 1968 or so. Maybe back in 1977 it was useless relic of bygone days like "colored only" bathroom signs.
Observer article said the sign had stood for 10 years, so it looks more like 68 - 77 versus 57 - 68 for that particular sign. Possible there were others of earlier vintage.
