The storm isn’t gonna pass until Friday I believe.

RE: Elon Game
The URI date is not moving. There are way too many travel plans that go into that trip months in advance. Not to mention all of the fans that already have plane tickets, etc.

Central Uconn has a bye 03 Nov, same as us.

That's an example. Just need to find a team that will also cancel this Saturday AND has a bye 11/3.

Samford out of the SoCon won't work as they play in Alabama this weekend. They do have an open date on the 3rd.

ODU is at Charlotte this weekend and they have a bye on the 3rd. Hmmm

SC State is supposed to play at home this weekend. They could play us on the 3rd. That may be the best option.

Can we spend the next 15 years making played out jokes about it like our one Maine poster that lingers here?

I picked the Tribe to go 8-3 --- but Elon was supposed to be one of the wins. So cancelling this game would put us at 7-3 (or maybe 6-4 as TribePride91 mentioned), which leaves no wiggle room with the selection committee.

Unfortunately, I think the smartest move is the scenario mentioned where the Tribe plays at Rhody this weekend and we host Elon on 10/27. Yes, that is four straight road games, which bites, but it seems better than having Rhody host Elon this weekend (and we play Elon on 11/3) because that would be switching venues (Elon would travel to Rhody instead of hosting them (assuming that Beancounter had it right on the URI at Elon)).

The argument about a lack of preparation time should not matter because both teams would be under that same constraint.

I don't see any idiocy happening like what happened in 2004 (win for Maine, no contest for W&M). That is a lesson that hopefully has been learned.

RE: Elon Game
Unlike 2003 with Maine, both Elon and WM are affected by this storm. The storm will come ashore and then looks like it's going to crawl across NC and dump rain, even as winds subside. I think think conditions will be playable, the question will be if Elon feels like they can get a bus up and back. Elon is far enough inland I think rain will be the big thing for them, rather than wind. There could definitely be significant storm surge in the Hampton Roads area, but Williamsburg (especially the stadium) is far enough back that I think it will be some strong gusts and a lot of rain. Hopefully they can work out travel to get this one played. Would be interesting if they decided to play it at a place like city stadium in Richmond or something.

RE: Elon Game
Latest on storm is that it will hit late Thursday night, early Friday and last---due to storm possibly stalling and moving very slowly--into next week. Elon right in storm's path and we'regoing to get hit with winds and torrential rain.

I expect game (and all other W&M sports events) to be cancelled today or tomorrow and College itself to shut down Thursday.

Major problem here is Elon getting to Williamsburg. Friday travel into the teeth of a hurricane seems a stretch.

I can't imagine that the logistics of that short notice would be possible. Plus this isn't effecting only a caa game. This effects every team playing in the mid Atlantic. The wise play is to cancel the game. Not safe for fans or teams to travel through the path of a known hurricane.

Yeah.. I appreciate the creativity of folks on this board but I think the short explanation is.. it's just not that simple. There is broad sweeping impact to attempting sudden total shifts in games. It effects travel costs for teams, travel costs for fans, logistics, who knows other things going on at those sites on those days, etc, etc - not to mention what mrJ mentions here - that there are going to be a slew of college football teams in this boat.

I think the right answer is it's likely going to have to be cancelled.

ODU and NSU are right by the water and a slight storm surge will hit them hard. Williamsburg is set back a bit. Playing the game would be okay if Elon could get there and back.

Dave Johnson tweet
"William and Mary (home vs. Elon), Hampton University (home vs. Tennessee State), and CNU (at Frostburg Staet) are all in discussions regarding their games scheduled for Saturday. My hunch: All will be canceled later today."

New forecasts show huge (10") rainfall headed for central VA (more westerly track than before). I don't think we are going to be able to out-maneuver this one.

But there's more to it than just getting there. There's power, there's game conditions, there's possible tornado/thunderstorm implications, etc. Saturday is when the eye of the storm will be headed our direction.

Many of you likely follow the guy at wxrisk.com, he’s a Richmond based weather person and usually has pretty accurate stuff. Posted a pretty interesting video about what things look like this morning:

At the end of the day a lot can change, but it seems like this is going to go/stay further south.
