Wow. That's the most offensive AND ridiculous statement I've seen regarding McCain since his death.

In the comments of the article about his death I read on Saturday night, someone wrote RIH. Rest in Hanoi or Rest in Hell were my guesses.

I've seen literally nothing but kind statements about him from dems & repubs. Many prefaced with "I didn't always agree with his politics," or even "I didn't agree with ANY of his political beliefs," but then there was always a nice statement about his service and what he went through as a POW, and that he loved his country.

Yea, that pretty ridiculous. People are awful.

OK... No one on this forum gave 2 sh!ts about McCain until he died - and it's even more blatant in the media who were only too happy to call him one of the devil's own children when he ran against Obama. McCain changed a lot from the time he was a prisoner in Hanoi vs what he became spending more than one career in the senate. Be they Dems or GOP'ers - ANYONE who spends more than 2 terms in the senate is not doing so to make a difference. It's all about ego, corruption and a lust to have power.

If I'm a rotten person because of that view...so be it.

Um, I seem to remember a lot of us raking someone on here over the coals - maybe it was you, maybe not - about their disparaging remarks about him even before he was too ill to be in DC.

...and yes; stating that his being a successful senator after returning home cancels out his sacrifice as a POW does, indeed, make you a rotten person. Bigly. Yugely.

Nope - wasn't me you were raking over the coals. I'm just bemused by people feeling offended over a man they otherwise paid no real attention to before or after. My point was that McCain doesn't become who was as a senator without being a POW. That and his connections thru his father ultimately made him the senator. Doesn't matter because in a few days no one will really think much about him aside from those who were close to him.

What in the Dossier is fake?
STOP THE LIES

You don't seem to get it. The question is not what in the dossier is fake, but what in the dossier has been independently verified? For the purposes that the dossier was used, not independently verified is legally the same as fake.

I think they get it, but they know they'd lose that point so they pretend it isn't there.

The dossier isn't 'fake' per se... in that it exists... but the information contained in it has a myriad of assumptions and accusations that have not been vetted nor verified, so treating it as if it is anything more than an opinion...

They're doing the same thing wrt 'fake news'. A rumor or opinion is presented as NEWS rather than commentary and when it is pointed out that it is fake NEWS, the left argues the same way they're arguing here.

The problem for them is that few people (even on the left) are that stupid. They're arguing just to argue/sound good at their cocktail party.

I did. Had some issues with his a few positions but he was my father's suite-mate at the academy... he's had dinner at my house... sat with him at football games etc.

Oddly, his suite-mates and company are being excluded from the DC events and only being allowed to attend the interment at Annapolis and events surrounding that. Maybe crowd control or something, but lots of those people still live in or around DC
