Celebrities Attack President Trump at Struggling MTV Awards Show
Quote:For the second straight year, the MTV Video Music Awards drew its smallest audience ever.
Monday's show drew 2.25 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. Across eight Viacom-owned channels, it drew 4.87 million viewers and a 2.2 in the demo; both sets of numbers fall short of the 2017 VMAs, which set the previous low.
The awards also aired on a ninth Viacom network, TV Land, for which numbers weren't immediately available. It is highly unlikely, however, that enough people tuned in there to push the VMAs past their 2017 on-air total of 5.36 million viewers and 2.6 rating in adults 18-49.

And they are horrible in large part because all they can do is attack Trump.

All these Hollywood award show rating have tanked. The political bs being spewed has chased viewership away in droves.

Just proving that these "artists" aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Yeah, let's denigrate & insult HALF of our potential customers then turn around and wonder why the ratings for our self-indulgent love fest is in the toilet.
Just like Clay Travis' new book title..... Republicans Buy Sneakers Too....

They so woke!
I remember MTV... last time I checked, they just had reruns of the Wayans Bros and Everybody Hates Chris with a spattering of Jersey Shore. Not sure what it has to do with music any more.

No, they're horrible because MTV is completely out of touch with music now, and has been long before Trump. Everything is not about politics. Sometimes it's just crappy programming.

But in this case its that and an hysteria brought on by our POTUS. Almost everything is political these days. All these movements that spring up - hard to keep up with them all anymore - are proof of that. Social justice has been forced on us as a responsibility we all have to each other, regardless of whether we wish to be included or not. According to the lefts doctrine now I should be entitled to something because I too can pigeonhole myself into some category in which my inclusion entitles me to be pandered to based on my self identification. Except, I am the boogeyman, that old white guy who is not to be tolerated, who is not to be included and for whom no special consideration should be forthcoming.
Almost all the media outlets on the left, which is almost all the media outlets so that's almost redundant to say, aid and abet the perpetuation of the above narrative - and so much more propaganda - vigorously. If you don't see it it's because you choose not to.

If it was limited to MTV then your point would be more relevant but it's not just MTV. It's every Hollywood/show biz award show. They're all in the tank. And they've all MADE THEMSELVES about politics and have made their stage about bashing this president.
Nobody wants to hear it and the public is making their voices known by not watching.

I watched the first MTV VMA's back in 1985. I was nine years old. It was pretty cool. Billy Idol did a few numbers. Queen performed. Phil Collins performed. And I felt good about what I watched. I actually had a rooting interest. No Reagan bashing. No nothing but a lot of frizzy hair and pastel colors.

Why can't we have 1985 again ?
Exactly. It used to be extremely rare for politics to be part of an awards show. Marlon Barndo---George C Scott---its was relatively limited. Because it was so limited---it actually had some impact. Now---you've got every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a modicum of fame thinking their political opinions are important to everyone else. Award shows have become non-tolerant zones in which only one opinion is allowed. They have become preachy, in your face, political shows where they hand out a few awards---most of which nobody cares about. I quit watching them beacuse they seemed more interested in telling conservatives how stupid they are than entertaining. Pass. Frankly, Ill enjoy their music/movies more knowing less about what they think.
Here is the thing Ive never understood---both fame and TV ratings are driven by popularity. In a 50-50 political nation---why in the hell would you want to alienate half our audience. It seems to me that a smart celebrity will keep his politics personal because every other choice is a no win situation.
