C-USA Quarterbacks of the Future - the Class of 2019 as of 8/5/2018
I think we all would agree that football has become a very quarterback-centric game, and it seems that the C-USA teams have put some extra effort into locking onto some good QB talent early in the 2019 recruiting season. Nine of our teams have verbal commits from QBs, and Marshall has two. l picked the higher rated QB from Marshall to include in the following group, which I listed in rank order from highest rated to lowest rated according to 247Sports. Across the board, it looks like a pretty darn good group.
Although I don't always agree with 247Sports ratings, I think they got this one right by making Western Kentucky's Tylan Morton the top rated QB to commit to date. I looked at each of the Hudl videos, and based solely on that review, he looks to be the cream of the crop. Frankly, he reminds me of Cam Newton, and like Cam, he's coming out of junior college -- so I'm not sure how many years he can get with the Hilltoppers. Anyway, here you go for those who want to take the time to take a look at C-USA's quarterbacks of the future.

TQ Newsome will be playing running back at USM, not QB.
He should have been listed as a Dual-threat QB on 247, not Pro. He ran 135 times for 916 yards with 15 touchdowns last season. Definitely not Pro style.

For MT - with a four year starting QB - the future is now. It's more about the '17 and '18 commits for us than it is the current class. Unless someone big time just falls into our laps for '19. I could see MT looking to land a grad transfer as one option for next year. This is probably the top recruit on paper...

Yeah, I noticed that in his video. He definitely likes to tuck it more than chuck it. He reminded me of Keon Howard in the video.

RE: C-USA Quarterbacks of the Future - the Class of 2019 as of 7/17/2018
I would be surprised if Kuehne ever sees meaningful playing time. We have Mason Fine this season & next (Kuehne’s RS year) after Mason is gone, it will likely either be RS JR Cade Pearson or RS SO Kason Martin. That will go up to Kuehne’s RS SR year and then I doubt we would play a guy for just one year. Of course, Kuehne could come in and be a world beater, but we already have one of the best QB rooms in C-USA, if not the best. Not to mention we just got 24 year old Austin Aune. He was a 3* .86ish QB out of HS but instead decided to play baseball for the Yankees farmer system for like 6 years instead. So he is a 24 year old freshman.

I dont put that much trust in 247 personal rankings. The Western QB has one ranking and that came from 247. This QB did not have a ranking before he signed with Western and two days later he's has a .8600. You would think someone on the higher end of a 3 star ranking would have been 'known' . His offers, Western & Alcorn State.
So how do you go from no ranking to a high 3 star in 2 days? It wasn't from seeing a kid play in person. It wasn't game action. Nope it had to be highlite tape....
In all my years of watching highlite film I've yet to see a player make a mistake. Make a bad play. Throw a INT. Hell basketball players shoot 100%
Another thing I've noticed from 247, they seem to rate Western players higher over the last 3 classes than previous classes. My personal reason for this....Western had a PAID 247 board in those 3 years and not before.
Kevaris Thomas QB in the 2018 class, has 2 ratings. Rivals gives him a 5.5 (5.7-5.5 = Three-star prospect) and 247 gave him a 4 star 900
Both QBs are listed as dual threats. When I think dual threat I think quickness and speed. Well I haven't seen anyone call Mike White quick or fast. White's 40 is better than one and a tenth of a second slower than the other. Same for the 20 yard cone test that measures quickness.
Hope you are correct but till talent is shown and that means on a college football field....
rating are useless

While ratings don't guarantee the caliber/impact of a player, they do provide a good reference point. Kind of like the NFL draft. The #1 pick isn't guaranteed a great NFL career, but it is a good indicator he had a great college career.
I've also noticed a lot of the middle of the pack JC guys get graded late.

Thomas might end up being their best QB.
Worked with the dad of Lakeland's HS asst coach who handles recruiting. He transferred from another smaller highschool (where he wasn't getting any attention) to play a Lakeland. S. Carolina offered him on the visit but then rescinded it when they got another top 4-star commitment.
He has a big time arm and reminds me of former Marshall QB Byron Leftwich.

A QB can have all the skill but unless the decision making is there....the talent will not matter. It's hard for that to translate on high lite film. Another thing I dont like about a JUCO qb....
Most of the time playing QB you need to remember a lot more than any player on the field. Not all JUCO's go that route because of grades. But those that do...do they make good QB's in FBS?
I'm just more of a show me first than recruiting ratings.

clt, I set up this thread for the discussion of 2019 verbal commit quarterbacks. Right now Charlotte does not have one. Let me know when they do, and I will be glad to include him in the discussion.

RE: C-USA Quarterbacks of the Future - the Class of 2019 as of 8/5/2018
Marshall's starting QB will most likely be Alex Thomson this year and next year. Then Isiah Green for 2 years 20/21. After that who knows the next starter in all honesty probably hasn't even committed and is probably a freshman or sophomore in HS right now.

Thomson has 2 years and Green is an RS Freshmen. Both are much more athletic than Litton and have just as good or better arms. Green reminds me of a bigger, more athletic Cato. We’re set very well for 3-4 years. Jmo
