RE: SCOTUS Nomination
Quote:Kavanaugh, who has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit since 2006, dissented from a 2011 decision in which a three-judge panel upheld the District of Columbia's ban on so-called assault weapons and its requirement that all guns be registered. Kavanaugh disagreed with the majority's use of "intermediate scrutiny," saying an analysis "based on text, history, and tradition" is more consistent with the Supreme Court's Second Amendment precedents.

The D.C. "assault weapon" ban covers a list of specific models as well as guns that meet certain criteria. A semi-automatic rifle that accepts a detachable magazine is illegal, for instance, if it has any of six prohibited features, including an adjustable stock, a pistol grip, or a flash suppressor. "The list appears to be haphazard," Kavanaugh noted. "It bans certain semi-automatic rifles but not others—with no particular explanation or rationale for why some made the list and some did not." In any case, he concluded, the law is inconsistent with the landmark 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller.

Trump should have given Kavanaugh a hat that "SCOTUS" on it like they do at the draft.

I mean he's by any stretch of the imagination pretty far to the right, but he is undeniably qualified for the position and is going to get it so I'm not gonna spend any time arguing about it. Same thing with Gorsuch way way way to the right but by any reasonable measure completely qualified. These 2 picks fall perfectly in line with "elections have consequences." Trump actually did the smart thing and nominated the most qualified person on the list, who the Dems can try to fight but it's gonna be completely useless. They might would have had a punchers chance to fight off Barrett because of her extremely thin resume, but they've got no hope here.

One thing I saw about our possible SC judge is that he's not an orator. Even the president looked like he was falling asleep. I had to fast forward his speech. LOL

I have more of a gripe with the cheater who picked Kavanaugh in this thread's poll after he had already been nominated (somehow his poll number just went from 1 to 2), than the pick itself.

MSCGA hat would have been a nice touch.

That's why I'm mad.

Kavanaugh is to close to the center. We have the votes. There is no need to pick a center right justice.

03-lmfao I saw that too. Zombie's *** should be prosecuted for making it a private poll.

no doubt, that would've been a hoot.....however, it wasn't a moment for that #henceDJT.............and he understands that......

he really doesn't get enough credit for the 'moment'......

he will when they write about him after he leaves office.....

not since Teddy has there been one like him........it's damned impressive watching him evolve at that age.......

My man pending like I can't figure out the grand plan here is silly. I knew it was gonna be Kavanaugh, I was the only person that voted for him in this poll until like 5 minutes ago. The margin is too thin to nominate the true looney tunes righty this time, but the hope is you gain a couple of seats in the badly stacked midterms for the Dems, Ginsburg dies, and then you nominate the full crazy. The dems have no one to blame for this but themselves. They are the idiots who opened the door for getting rid of the supreme court filibuster, and they are the ones who had to lie, cheat, and steal to try to make Hillary president. Luckily as I said earlier in this thread I'm a straight white man so nothing out of this is actually gonna negatively affect me personally, but there's gonna be a whole lot of people who won't be so lucky.
