RE: CAA Tourney to Move to Washington DC
It helps with atmosphere (and will be all shiny and new), but, in the same way that I am against that size facility (anywhere in true Mid-Major), I am also against the appearance that the CAA is basically saying "we really don't see 6-700 people really wanting to watch our product".

Just seems like they are thinking way too conservatively.

I can't see this hurting attendance at all.

Neither can I. I think it's a great place to have it just like Charleston, but in a more central location.

Tournament games? I know UNCW has good support. I didn't know the fans traveled that well. If they traveled to Richmond and Baltimore they will travel to DC.

RE: CAA Tourney to Move to Washington DC
The CAA averaged 2,455/game across the conference last year. That would give you a total attendance of 12,275 for 10 teams playing 5 games. This arena holds about 34-35% of that amount - so what percentage of a team's normal attendance will travel (assuming everyone shows up for every game)? If it's about 1/3, then this would seem to be right on. If it's half, this isn't enough.

I'm in the camp that would've preferred to see something in the 6,500 range so that we didn't potentially turn away a thousand people who wanted to check out some CAA basketball.

Solution for seating could be in limiting ticket books?

Make the semis and Finals separate from the first 2 rounds. If your team is out, youre probably leaving at this point. If your team advances, you buy the next 2. Dont think it will impact overall numbers too much but will be a fan satisfier.

Ticket allocation will be a major determining factor in success for this venue I think. If you see favorites bounced early it could lead to a small, empty arena unless they allow fans to buy games separately

RE: CAA Tourney to Move to Washington DC
Best solution is to rotate the tourney amongst members yearly. Second best solution is holding it in DC.

It makes it much easier for my family to attend. I like this move.

RE: CAA Tourney to Move to Washington DC
I can see that it would be an annoyance for UNCW or Charleston moving it to DC. Distance wise, DC really is the fairest location for the entire conference. The furthest outliers, NE & CofC, are each roughly 7-8hrs away. I like the idea of rotating venues as well.

Really liking this for selfish reasons. I attended most of the Richmond tournaments and all of the Baltimore ones (no Charleston so far).

Tribe fans and alums should show up in droves with this new location, especially with the current quality of play on the court.

I like the rotation option too. Teams should be able to either host or pass depending on whether they want to spend time and money on it. I'd be fine if the team could pick a venue close to their college if their home venue wasn't big enough (like Northeastern).

I've done the drive into DC literally thousands of times. It's no big deal if you plan around traffic. You can also take a train.

Noted. For reference, it's 5:32 hours if you left right now with a little traffic in Springfield and entering DC...both of which will be flowing in 2.5 hours. You'll be missed.

RE: CAA Tourney to Move to Washington DC
Well, maybe in four years the conference will have the option of moving it to Richmond at the replacement facility for the Coliseum. The plans for that facility allow for scaled seating to configure to the needs of an event. If the 4200 seating capacity proves to be an issue, it will give another option.

When the games were in Baltimore (and the team was good), W&M administration set up bus trips from Williamsburg. DC is certainly easier than Baltimore, so I would expect up and back trips to DC.
