Me too. I need the find the SB Ballard guys and get in good with them.

Kind of surprised JMU Athletics hasn't uploaded photos since 6-14.
Marketing - please get us some site photos pretty pretty please

Put on a hardhat, yellow safety vest, Boots and stop by the site around 4-5 when most crews are starting to leave for the day. Most Super's are still working in the office and may "unofficially" let you walk around. I assume you aren't experience in the construction industry so I'm not recommending this for safety reasons but.... no one really knows who comes and goes during a typical work day.
Ohh I'm familiar. Also, a safety vest gets you anywhere.

That’s funny.

Wait til 20,000 people are showing up in vests to the next concert

You would think that but most large scale projects have security in the off hours and a guard at the entrances to the jobsite during the day. All workers typically go through a safety orientation before they are even allowed onsite and are given either a sticker to put on their hardhat or an ID card (sometimes both). All of this is for insurance purposes, if something happens to you onsite the GC is screwed. Most supers wont let you walk around the site freely but you always find people that dont care

In Virginia; we don't have the union's regulating much of anything but left up to OSHA and the GC to regulate. Training for most workers is a 10 hr course and 30 for management. Unless it's a government facility or doing fire watches, security is usually limited to a chain link fence and a pad lock. We're pretty laid-back down here. I would think that JMU Security keeps a very close eye on things since we know how smart most college aged people can be.

Its not a union thing. I did a job in atlanta for Georgia tech and had two entrances in and out of the site. As did every job i saw down there. There may not be a daytime guard but SB Ballard is a big enough GC to know the importance to keep their site under control.

The boys are off to an early start this morning. The last truss has been lifted into position. Once they get all the cross members in position it should be fun watching them get the cranes out!! Getting close to having the bowl under roof.

Update: The lifting slings have been removed from the truss and the two large cranes and a fair number of the cross beams are in place from the truss to the University Blvd side of the roof structure. Boys are working hard today!!

This is a huge milestone. Getting the outer skeleton of the main part of the arena is awesome. I'm assuming the practice court skeleton will be much less involved and will finish up pretty quickly.

Would imagine they'll have it enclosed by Nov/Dec sometime?

When he's not construction site foreman in Western Virginia, PoJMURDs likes to moonlight on message boards. I feel like you're only missing a preposterous telephoto lens picture of the actual foreman's clipboard.

The big crane is lifting the cross members for the last truss from the Carrier Drive end of the arena and is backing out of the bowl. So would think in the next day or so all the cross members should be in place and the crane completely out of the bowl. Then the roofing can be finished and the bowl section will be under roof!!

What a week for progress. Except for removing all the brick the masons had already laid. Not sure what went wrong there.

Thanks to the marketing crew for the photos!

RE: Atlantic Union Bank Center Webcam
It's really looking great.
It appears that the seating in the upper deck is much closer to the action than the rendered drawings. That is an awesome thing because it appears that:
1. Fans will be close to the action
2. There really won't be a bad place in that arena to watch the game
3. More importantly.... it should be VERY LOUD!

I would imagine that was a big reason for building it that way. Just nice to see that happening. I'm getting more and more excited to get in there.

So you're the one sneaking onto the site on weekends and checking and recording torgue on the purlin bolts for fun. Those wacky engineer types.

Seriously, I really enjoy the updates.

Impressive, I've spend my entire working life working on a construction site and this project in one of the more impressive jobs I've seen from an organizational standpoint. Fast track jobs are usually a cluster **** but this one really appears to be well run.

looks like the perfect size to me. Even though it holds more than the convo, it is way more compact.

i can see the electric zoo being plugged back in. wait till we get recruits to a jammed game.
