I have also been wondering the same thing. Should be interesting to see how they get the last roof truss assembled with the cranes in the way. Looking forward to seeing how they do it.

The construction geek in me is really curious to see how they back themselves out of there and close the place up as they go. I'd expect the rest of the roof structural steel to be delivered this week.

anybody remember "mike mulligan and the steam shovel".

Strong reference!

Looks like the last truss is being assembled in the bowl. Should be interesting to see how they accomplish this. Was thinking that it may go up in multiple sections.

Looks like the roof decking is going on where the new truss was installed. Last truss is partially assembled in the bowl. Would assume they will install it in two sections instead of one whole piece due to the limited room with the cranes in the way. Should be interesting to watch how they do it.

Looking good and lots o' progress. Once the roof gets completed there shouldn't be any more chances for weather delays the project team will have a really good idea of the 100% completion date. It feels like Spring of next year which is great to allow for plenty of time to work any kinks out before the 2020-2021 hoops season starts.

It would be magical if this year's team can go to the NCAA tourney and JMU uses it as jet fuel momentum to open the new $103 million arena.

Looks like they are getting ready to assemble the last truss (in two pieces) right now. Have the pieces vertical so I guess they will join them and then hoist it into position. Should be interesting watching them get the cranes out once the truss is in place. Would guess they will back one out and use the other to add the cross bracing and small roof truss pieces from the Carrier Drive end back towards the other end and then the crane will be out of the bowl when the last of the roof structure is in place. Interesting to say the least. Always fun to watch stuff being built/assembled. It's the engineer in me.

Update: The two truss pieces have been joined together and it looks like they are getting ready for the final hoist!!

Put on a hardhat, yellow safety vest, Boots and stop by the site around 4-5 when most crews are starting to leave for the day. Most Super's are still working in the office and may "unofficially" let you walk around. I assume you aren't experience in the construction industry so I'm not recommending this for safety reasons but.... no one really knows who comes and goes during a typical work day.

Ohh I'm familiar. Also, a safety vest gets you anywhere.

Looks like they are assembling the last section of the truss. Final hoisting into place can not far off!!

HAHA, Never really thought about the vest thing. Just for grins, I might try that at the NOVA game to see if I can get to the club area. I even have one of those fancy government issued ID's with my picture on it, throw in a Geiger Counter off of Ebay and I'm in.

Thanks again for sharing the photos.

You would think that but most large scale projects have security in the off hours and a guard at the entrances to the jobsite during the day. All workers typically go through a safety orientation before they are even allowed onsite and are given either a sticker to put on their hardhat or an ID card (sometimes both). All of this is for insurance purposes, if something happens to you onsite the GC is screwed. Most supers wont let you walk around the site freely but you always find people that dont care

In other news I am trying to get a JMU flag ontop of my last job I was on. It just became the tallest residential building in the world and tallest building by roof height in NYC. I'll post pics when I do. I know i have another pic of a JMU flag on top of a 1000 footer in nyc that i'll dig up

This man is THE man!

Speaking of JMU flags it would seem to me that the 30 foot one that was hanging on the side of the Atlantic Union Bank center has been missing for some weeks. 100% chance it's in a ball in someone's apartment or dorm room.

Was wondering about that too. The JMU and American flags have been replaced with a huge SB Ballard flag.
