Thanks, Walt. I'm back ... just in time for a tie game. (Sigh!)

T8:

New runner pitcher: Craft (6-8/220; Junior)

Comeaux: 1-2 pitch ... "dribbler right of the mound" ... Craft covers for the throw, but "his foot is not on the mound." SAFE. Infield single.

Throw to first ... overthrown! "Comeaux sprints around 2nd ... and -- bang-bang play -- slides under the tag." Whew!!

Collins: 1-1 pitch ...single through the left side!! RBI!! WooHoo!!

4-3, Rice ... no outs.

T8, cont'd:

Gneiting pinch hitting for Cox ... Jefferies pinch running for Collins.

> Gneiting called out on 2-2 strike.

> Sarchet ... 0-1 pitchout goes to the backstop! Jeffereies advances to 2nd!
... 1-1 pitch "lifted very high into left field." F-7. Sigh.

> Frazier Ks, swinging, on 3 pitches.

4-3, Rice ... heading to B8.

T9:

Proctor: Hard-hit single off the mound up the middle. (2-1 count.) Yay!

Chandler:
Shows bunt, pulls bat back ... called strike.
Shows bunt again. Ball - high.
Called strike.
"Knifes it back foul."
"Fouls it deeper down the left side this time."
Ball ... high & outside. 2-2 count now.
"Hits it hard right by the mound and under the glove" (of the 2nd baseman). Single! Yay!!

Cruz (batting left-handed):
Ball-low.
Wiff!
Fouled straight back.
Ball - High & outside. 2-2 count now.
"Wave and a miss." K! Bummer. One out, runners at the corners.

Dunlap:
First pitch ... "Skies high to the right side ... foul, but in play. (Fielder) runs into the bullpen. Catches it. Proctor tags from third ... (but_ Chandler for some reason tries to tag from first base" and "is tagged out before Proctor crosses the plate for the double play." GRRRRRR!!!!!

4-3, Rice ... heading to B9.

Inning over.

Nice.

Win tomorrow and if we 4-2 the rest of the way in conference, we’re in.

Lose tomorrow, and it’s not the end of the world.

But let’s sweep!

RE: Saturday baseball DH game 2
Really nice job by Dane Acker after another exceptional start by Moss. Thankfully, we managed to squeek in another run, but 3 baserunning blunders in this one almost cost us the game. The lack of fundamentals and the number of stupid mental errors made by this year's team is simply mindboggling. As I've said before, the most inefficient offense I have witnessed in a long, long time.

The sweep would make up for last Sunday's debacle. I'm assuming it will be Garcia, given he only pitched 4 innings on Wednesday. Or, perhaps we go with all staff, with a parade of pitchers each going 1 - 3 innings-- both tomorrow and Tuesday vs. SHS.

Canterino/Jefferies (13 Ks) and Moss/Acker (14 Ks) registered 27 combined strikeouts on the day.

Also, fact check, with the win Rice moves into a TIE for 8th with the same .435 winning percentage as WKU.

I don’t know where you heard this info but apparently not everyone knows how to calculate winning percentage when ties are involved. (A tie counts as a half win and a half loss)
As of early this morning, D1baseball.com was computing this incorrectly.

RiceOwls.com set the record straight in their game recap last night. And perhaps most importantly, the CUSA weekly standings on their press release are also computing it correctly.
