(06-21-2018 02:53 PM)NTXCoog12 Wrote:  If houston is flash in the pan over the last decade, are 90% of other G5 teams pure garbage? 67% win percentage over that timeframe ain't too shabby. Over the last 5 years, Boise has only averaged 1 more win per year. Considering UH has been playing (and often beating) multiple teams per year that finished ranked and Boise hasnt, thats not much difference. In the past 3 years, boise has the same number of losses and 1 more win playing 1 more game. But Boise has 0 wins vs teams finishing ranked while UH has 6. Both have finishe ranked once, but UH finished higher and int the top 10. If we are flash in the pan, we are keeping up with Boise

And again... tell me the last time Boise beat a team that finished ranked. UH has done it 6 times in the last 3 years. 3-0 vs the last 2 Heisman winners.

Not saying UH has a better recent track record than Boise, but to totally dismiss it as flash in the pan is ridiculous. Sounds like Boise fans have to bow up to look relevant because when Access Bowl time comes up, they aren't the ones coming up as the best G5 team. Boise has only been considered the best G5/nonAQ team once in the last 5 years. UCF has twice. UCF has finished top 10 twice in the last 5 years. UH once. Boise zero. As the 00s fade away, Boise needs to do something dramatic to show they are the premier non P5 team. Being ranked isnt going to cut it. After all, even Memphis has finished ranked as often as Boise the last 4 years.

Just so you know, beating a team that has a Heisman Winner, by itself, means absolutely nothing. Remember a Heisman winner a few years back who came from a 2-9-1 Iowa State team?

You and Cincy got finger-banged by the Big 12, then told you weren't good enough. Eventually, when Texas and OU, and probably Kansas leave it, you will get your invite, and then you will destroy what's left and dominate those leftovers.

No ISU player has ever won the Heisman and only the great Paul Hornung has won from a losing team.

Kind of makes me question your knowledge of college football

Houston? Flash in the pan? Which team has finished ranked most? Which team has finised top 10 more? Both have the same top 5. Who has a Heisman and Lombardi and Outland?

But I guess a La Tech fan has to live vicariosuly through another team since they've never finished ranked themselves

Maybe someday we can field a team that would be able to even stay within a 2-3 TD's of the mighty UH Cougars 07-coffee3

One year you had a team that couldn't keep within 69 points of UH

This guy is going for a new approach for click bait. Let's pretend like we forget 1/3 of the G5 teams for a couple of weeks.

These are the final Sagarin Rankings from last year for CUSA as comparision. Next up should be UAB then Middle or UNT

Depends who's left, and you ain't all that. Houston, Cincy, and UConn are the attractive football and basketball opponents, respectively. That's it. Lose 2 or all 3, and the incentive is gone.

Seems he sees the top of the conference as pretty tight, I have to imagine five of the remaining six come in the next ten, maybe all six.

Unless he has FAU in the 40s, seems like he's predicting a tight race for the title even.

I had originally predicted FAU in the 30s. We'll see. At least we may have an idea what he values more, strength of schedule, last year's record, starters returning, or if he's just throwing darts at the dart board.

So -- I checked five other preseason rankings, and FAU ranked anywhere from 29 to 69 with an average ranking of 47.6 What I conclude from that is that it is anybody's guess where they belong in Uncle Matt's circus. Personally, I think he will bring them in somewhere between 28 an 37. He seems to hold C-USA in pretty high regard this year, and with six teams yet to be ranked, it seems to me that FAU, as just about eveyone's preseason conference favorite, will have to be ranked pretty high

Agreed. I'm expecting Miami-Ohio, and Buffalo soon. Wyoming and Temple seem overdue too.

I think 2 of those might come in before we hit 60, and 3 more (including UAB) fall somewhere in the 50s. FAU is a mystery to me. I personally could see them making it to the 30's or late 20s.
