Very short term thinking. In 5 years we would have been down to 1 smelter and potentially been almost out of US Steel producers. If you think the costs are a little higher now, imagine the day we are totally dependent of foreign steel and aluminum. It is a national security issue.

I'm in the business, I have to adjust my estimating costs up weekly. It is very short term, unfortunately our stadium construction is probably going to fall into that short term. And nobody understands the tariffs enough to know what the final impact will be. I'm seeing our cost for raw galvanized sheet metal increasing 20% in the last month and a half. And it's not done rising. I think long term it will be good for the steel and aluminum producers. Timing just sucks for us on a large steel using stadium project.

Fake news. This problem was in place well before anybody was talking about tariffs. More to do with the hurricanes and booming economy driving skyrocketing demand for construction.

My father is in the industry (supplier side) and purchases steel very regularly. There was some confusion, as you mentioned, as the tariff talk started, but that was more of a wait and see on the part of the steel manufacturers than any major change in price. Prices had begun rising long before anyone said the word tariff.

I would love to get to 37k but I just dont see it unless they go big in the north endzone and really expand the upper deck on the east side. Remember its being built so that nothing new will be torn down so that only means adding on to the new stuff.

I would just be happy with 32k one day

There is no demand for 32k. That would require a multi-year run of major success and probably a new conference.

Hopefully, that is the long term plan (and getting such a stadium will help recruit the players needed to do just that.)

And even currently with UVA, Va. Tech, and ECU, we could certainly pull 32K.

I would have been willing to take $50k for that assessment and they could have saved the $1M they gave Populous to come to that conclusion.

So, you could poll the fanbase (and evaluate the results), do engineering studies, cost estimates and draw plans for 50k? Sounds like you'd be the one getting ripped off.

Seems like we ignored a lot of what Populous told us. We got a lousier stadium, in the same location, for $10 million more, two years later than it should have been. I'm glad to get a new stadium, and it will be an upgrade, but we spent time and money on the populous study for recommendations that seem as if they were never used.

That's because what Populous gave us could not be done for what they said it could be built for. Populous' original design was a complete waste of time and money. That's the whole reason for this re-design.

Not only were they never used, they were also obvious. They didn't exactly bring any incredible insight to the process with their surveys.

Could it have been built for what they said it would cost at the time of the proposal submission? Thats the big question in my mind. Well, that and what did Ballard actually propose when he made his submission. Populous is a pretty reputable company and I would think they wouldnt get something so wrong. If we could have gotten what they proposed for $55 million at the time they submitted it, and Wood & Co. twiddled their thumbs while the costs went up, thats on them. If Populous gave us bogus info, we should sue them and get our $1 million back to buy a scoreboard. I don't know if any of thats the case. Just asking the question.

Not very impressed with Populous up to this point. Hopefully they deliver a good product in the end

I'm not at all certain a new sound system will overcome Ankersons dull, marbled mouth delivery.

Harry obviously heard many on here and our concerns over lack of state backing. Hell of a schedule. Will be a great feat of programming and coordination to pull off.

Any news on them selling bricks? I wonder if we missed out on having that luxury of taking them down as gracefully as possible.
