You know what? I'm okay with this. After all the speculation, hand-wringing, and pessimism, this really ain't that bad. Not the best, but a good first step. Hopefully this design incorporates the ability to expand further easily.

It is, but it could have been worse I guess. I definitely doesn't look like $65 million, but its not bad. But maybe phase 2 can come quickly. I wish there was more brick, suites, and a new scoreboard.
I actually think it looks pretty good. I still don't understand why we can't get a new scoreboard. I'm just glad its happening.
Why preserve the frickin Norfolk seal? How much are they contributing to the project? They refused to reroute the street behind the stadium. This limits our footprint and the size we could ever grow. Screw them.

No explanation on the increase to $65Million from the previously announced $55Million. Or have I missed something in the years since the $55M was announced?

Construction and material costs have skyrocketed since then. The devastation in Texas and Florida of 2017 exasperated the problem.

Because it looks cool, the school is in Norfolk, and it is a nice nod to the history of Foreman Field 1.0.
I don't hate this design. I know it is not what was originally promised or even promised in the scaled back plans but it is far from horrible. There are aspects I really despise (the lack of it being 100% chair backs) but all in all, this isn't bad. The steel can be cover with bricks in later phases. The north endzone will eventually get redone, the scoreboard will either be replaced then or when it's useful life is reached in about five or six years. They are being smart by building this phase with the expansion in mind to make tying those pieces in easier. I am still a bit disappointed that this is not the small NFL stadium we were initially promised but I am encouraged that J-Bord, and to a lesser extent Wood, didn't totally screw this up.
Looking at some of the other renderings, I think this might have a better presence (inside the stadium) than the other model did. This one looks to be taller and already has a second deck. They're building in concourses into the mezzanine to me signals that they want to have a bowl-wide concourse at some point, that can be updated to have restrooms/concessions.
I also dig the Norfolk seal and nods to FF 1.0

What a bust, lol. I guess that's why they dropped it on a Friday. As bad as this is, I can't imagine what it would look like if the guvernment wasn't going to approve the extra $10M.

And if they aren't putting a true club level up there, only seats, will people buying club seats have to walk down to the ground level to find a rest room? Not sure those will be in high demand without swanky food and drinks, comfy chairs and better restroom areas.
