You could kinda see it in the CA article today. The dad said something like "its going to be hard because we have such a good relationship w/ MM". To me, it sounded like they appreciate all he's done for the family, but TW would be playing somewhere other than Memphis. Just the way I interpreted it

It read that way to me as well. Who knows with recruiting though? I’d love for us to get Watford, but the other guys we’ve been recruiting seem to be very good as well. Curious to see how it all plays out.

Who knows. I don't think anyone who gives a % has any scientific formula to derive a number. Everybody is just guessing at this point. However, I have wondered for some time how they would juggle the limited scholarships they have with all the bigs they are recruiting. Penny already has committed a scholarship to Dandridge. They are actively recruiting James Wiseman, Matthew Hurt, Trendon Watford, CJ Walker. They are even trying to get in late on kids like Jaden McDaniels, which I believe would be a longshot. However, they can't sign them all. I just wonder how they are playing the game. Will they just take the first couple that commit, or are there some kids (like Trendon maybe) that may want to wait and see who else they get before they commit. If Hurt now says he would like to sign in November, is Watford wanting to wait and see what he does? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

The game they are playing is the same game every school plays. Give out more offers than scholarships available in order to put pressure on the recruits to commit early in fears they will lose that scholly to another similarly ranked position player.

They will have enough scholarships to get who they want if the kids commit and sign.

I understand that. I'm wondering more precisely how they are playing differently with each recruit and who are they prioritizing over another. Which ones are they pushing hardest to sign and which our staff may be encouraging to wait until someone else makes their decision. Would like to be a fly on the wall...

RE: Trendon Watford
The writing is on the wall but it's not final. Trendon Watford's older brother played at Indiana. Archie Miller reeled in Romeo Langford and really impressed Trendon's father on the in-home visit. Plus, mind you, I heard on the radio interview where Daddy Lawson stated he had a talk with Watford's Dad about Memphis and I detected some bitterness in his voice and to me it wasn't just about U of Memphis. I read in the blog about him (Trendon) having trust in the staff to be able to let him play his game, this statement is starting to sound like a mantra. Trendon really likes Memphis but he's being swayed and the final decision may not be his to make.

Yeah... Just like I'm assuming you're not happy with my opinion.

1) Here's Watford's quote from his blog 8-23-18:
"The biggest thing that I'll factor into my decision is trust. I need to able to trust that the coach will allow me to play my game if I come there."

If there are 6000 recruits coming into the NCAA sphere in 2019, wouldn't 5,999 say the same thing? How does the quote reflect negatively on Memphis vs. positively for IU or UA?

2) Majority of recruits' parents are very savvy; know the Lawsons/UM/Daddy Lawson history. If Daddy spouted sour UM grapes to me/my son, I'd take it with a truckload of salt or toss it entirely.

3) Your Watford decision-making post above is entirely onesided as if Hardaway/Miller in-homes aren't the same homerun as A.MillerIU. Every indicator I've seen is that Penny/Mike/NBA pitch is unique and unmatched. At Peach Jam, people on both sides of me noticed when Penny/Mike entered the gym.

I'll give you a thumbs-up for your 'gut post', and thank you for posting.

I was really trying to be curt and not write a saga here. Please go to this thread "Is this turning into a predicament or a pleasant predicament?" and read post #28. Perhaps this will shed some light on the situation you are not familiar with.

Had already read the other thread before my post above. UM has received the last eight Watford CB picks with no changes for two months. Just an indicator, I know, but it doesn't smell like rain for UM at this point.

FWIW, Indiana's guys think it is Memphis or Bama with them coming in at 3. If Crean was still there, he'd be a lock to go there. IU has moved to a couple other guys.

Interesting.

They are going to take a commitment from Trayce Jackson-Davis who is heading there for their Midnight Madness. They also believe they are getting Keion Brooks who is going to be there as well. That's two top 20 guys they have earmarked. They'll take one from Jahmius Ramey as well, but he is going to Louisville.

LOL.

If he was such a lock, why not go to Georgia?

Close to home.
