Yeah, i get it, but would still make sense to have a "home team" in. UNCA plays it's home game sin that arena doesn't it?
Two different arenas. There is no connection to the actual university, other than the city.

Odd, when you look up US cellular arena, many of the picts are set up for basketball with all the SOCON banners hanging up. Maybe they played there more before A opened up their new arena?

Southern Conference tournament has been there last few year. UNCA didn't or doesn't play there, they use to play in Justice Gym before new arena.

RE: 2018-2019 Basketball Schedule
The Southern Conference has played its tournament in the US Cellular Arena for many years. The Arena seats maybe 5500, but any seat along the sidelines is good. The end zones have many of the seats. The Arena sells beer and decent food. There are many restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Parking near the Arena is difficult, but there is free parking at the Chamber of Commerce Office a manageable walk away.
UNCA might not want to play outside their on campus arena. More non-conference opponents might insist on playing in the US Cellular Arena to lessen UNCA's home court advantage.

So why is this sponsored by a county in the Outer Banks?

Quick glance at the Asheville field based on last year
Gardner Webb - 240 RPI, 4 way tie for 5th in 10 team Big South at 9-9. 11-18 overall
Eastern Illinois - 262 RPI, 4th place in OVC West, 8th overall out of 12, at 7-11. 10-19 overall
Arkansas St - 295 RPI, 11th place in 12 team Sun Belt at 6-12. 9-21 overall

I thought the same thing. I was confused and slightly excited because we spend Thanksgiving in Duck with my wife's family. Don't think I can make it to Asheville but that's a good destination for an early season tournament.

Nice to be able to get 3 games out of the deal. It's been a while since we played in a tournament that offered more than 2.

2018-2019 Basketball Schedule

I would venture to say it’s because that county is extremely wealthy thanks to high profile homes - owners/weekly renters. They have a lot of money to spend on something like this, and always compete with Dare County (just south of them on the Outer Banks) for summer tourism dollars.
My father built a lot of houses there (Currituck beaches) when I was a kid. I met all kinds of professional athletes, politicians, and CEOs he built homes for.

This tournament can either go really well for us or be a total disaster. I'm really hoping the former. We don't really have any excuses for losing any of these games considering they aren't fairly tough opponents and it's in our home state so hopefully we'll have a lot of fans (Gardner Webb is also in state)

Not only is McGrath getting quality home games, he's getting them on Friday and Saturday nights. For someone that lives a couple of hours away, that excites me. No way I'm missing the Stanford or Davidson games this year. Great opportunity to sell out Trask for both these games, especially with them being before the end of the semester too.

I'll likely be making the trip for both of those as well, definitely the Stanford game and more than likely the Davidson game too.
