RE: Will Toys R Us sabotage Trump?
Something interesting today about TRU: They abruptly cancelled their liquidation sales amidst rumors that someone might buy them out and keep the better performing stores open.

But IMO, to suggest that the closing of TRU, Sears, JC Penney or any other retailer would be in any way the fault of Trump's policies is absurd. These retailers were having problems long before 2016 and presidents just don't have that kind of sway over retail markets. Whether it's poor management, changing buying habits or other market factors, it doesn't make any difference who was in the White House, these businesses were likely to fail if they didn't make radical changes to their business model.

I believe they were just saying that Toys R Us closing and causing 30K to be unemployed could wipe out some (or most?) of the job gains that Trump was trying to get, regardless of whether it was his fault - which in this case, it isn't, of course. Sears too has been struggling for a really long time.

Uhhhhh, what?

Payrolls are up (depending on who you listen to) somewhere around 3 Million jobs since Nov. of ‘16.

Sure, losing 30k cashier and shelf stocking jobs sucks for those people, but that won’t even register in the overall UE rates.

someone asked for a link about Trumps failing efforts to create coal mining jobs.

here's one of many

Evil Trump created e-commerce. Done just to throw grandma and Santa's elves into the street. Someone call Mueller, quick!!

Perhaps they did it out of respect to their founder who passed away today at the age of 94? Poor guy probably couldn't take what is happening to his life long baby.

Could be. I didn't know that. Thanks. And yes, I can completely understand that. It is a shame what is happening. Some of my fondest memories of a kid were spent inside a TRU.
