Will Toys R Us sabotage Trump?
So Toys R us is closing down, putting 30,000 out of work. If e-commerce keeps putting brick and mortars out of business, could this put enough people out of work that Trumps jobs creation efforts are for naught?

someone asked for a link about Trumps failing efforts to create coal mining jobs.

here's one of many

Question.

Would you rather see American jobs boom or bust under Trump?

Trump's first 12 months on the job - PLUS 1.8 million jobs

Obama's first 12 months on the job - MINUS 4.3 million

Trump PLUS 6.1 million jobs over Obama

Remind me again about Toys R US?

The retail economy is over. Those jobs really aren't ever coming back. They were meant to be minimum wage jobs when it was $5/hour and being worked by high school students. Combine the internet with rising minimum wage and declining customer service and there is really no reason to try to run a store anymore unless you are a bored housewife with a boutique. Hopefully more blue collar jobs open up, though millennials might have to get their manicured hands dirty.

RE: Will Toys R Us sabotage Trump?
You know that's now how this works, don't you? Every President is left with the previous President's mess (or not) their first year. Nothing they do in the first 12 months kicks in that soon.

They are working off of the previous fiscal year to start. Come on, you do know this.

We're actually still working off of continuances of the 2017 (with minimal tweaks) budget 6 months into fiscal 2018.

PS - Tax reform is not the budget

So your link is saying that a year after the "great depression" was over, Obama became president and lost 1.8 million jobs in his first year. You are kind of making my point.

You have a short-term memory loss or obstinately refuse to accept the reality of what happened. The "fall" into the recession may have ended then but the repercussions latest several years. You think that "poof" 6 months onto 2009 everything was stable again?

While I am not at all optimistic about brick and mortar, I'm not convinced that the right idea won't work.

Circuit City went from not doing well to bankrupt when they fired their higher paid sales people who had the knowledge to help customers.

Most retail especially big box is built around a miniature Amazon concept. We have all kinds of stuff here, wander around, pick what you want bring it to the checkout stand.

There is space in retail for skilled or semi-skilled people who can answer questions and demonstrate products and basically do what Amazon doesn't achieve with its shopping experience.

Retail was never "designed" around the idea of minimum wage employees. That became the model when the employee became a person to put items on a shelf, ring up a sale, and place the item in a bag.

Retail historically relied on people who understood the goods being sold better than the consumer. This widget retail employee era is a historic blip.

I don't know. If the same $80 jeans in the store are $40 online with 2 day shipping, I don't see how you put together an experience worth the premium. I think it is dead for the most part.

RE: Will Toys R Us sabotage Trump?
Some of the locations where they are shutting down will have new tenants soon enough. Probably a few will stay vacant. But if those people want jobs, they'll find them. On the list of possible things that could cause Trump to lose his job, this ranks way, way, way down on the list.

Are there any retail toy stores of note left by the way? I mean besides Wal-Mart, Target and perhaps the all-electronic stores if you want to consider any of them a toy store (I wouldn't but something like Best Buy).

TRU did it to themselves. Between their lousy management, terrible customer service, ridiculous markups, poor stock and and availability and not to mention the fact that most of their higher end collectibles and games never reach the sales floor area due to TRU employees scalping them online, I am surprised they even made it to 2018.

Sears is probably next.

Toys R Us is a drop in the bucket.

This has been a long time coming. Toys R Us is a shell of its former self.

The libs hate success, Trump could do miracles and the libs would hate it. They only want the power so they could turn this country to Venezuela.

If Trump got all of the jobs from overseas brought back they would STILL complain that he never brokered world peace.

Then after unifying Korea and bringing joy to the world on all seven continents they would STILL complain that he didn't cure cancer.

Then after curing cancer they would STILL complain that he didn't bring gumdrop rivers filled with candy and rainbows and cute kittens to all of the world....

See where that is going ?

Believe it or not, there is a large portion of the adult collectible hobbyist community that want these figures brought back to and made in America.

The quality would be MUCH better and the increased cost would be worth it if you were actually getting what you paid for...
