I guess that’s Penny’s pitch too. Stay a year. Let me help you work on your game and you will move from late first round to lottery

If your Anfernee would you rather be making money now this year and start gaining some NBA experience or go to college?

Those crowds in Fort Wayne, Des Moines and Canton are sooo hard to turn down.

and Southaven!

Those crowds in Fort Wayne, Des Moines and Canton are sooo hard to turn down.

SI's mock draft from a week ago had Simons going #23. 23rd pick in this year's draft will make at least $1,371,500 in year 1, and $1,627,300 in year two. (Teams usually end up paying 20% more than scale for the 1st rounders, so probably more.) This doesn't include shoe money or other deals he could sign. If Simons is drafted 23rd and plays some G-League games in Des Moines, at that salary I think he would gladly do so.

Math isn't that simple. His endorsement deals will be negligible b/c nobody outside of recruiting circles has heard of him and he'll get zero exposure in the g-league. If he gets into the draft lottery after a year @ memphis, he could increase his earnings over the first 3 years almost 5X. Plus, with higher visibility in college, his endorsement money would increase as well.

If a team drafts a player in the first round they hope he is ready to play now.

If he’s guaranteed first round he should go pro. If he’s not he should go to college because that’s the best PR move and best likelihood of getting a guaranteed contract.

We have a real shot at this kid. He's Jayden hardaway best friend, and roommate at Img academy. Kids been to Memphis to visit Jayden when he was here ,and spent time at Penny's house. If you have kids your kids aren't going on out of town sleepovers with another parent who you're not familiar with. Come here for a year and raise his stock to top 10 level. We have a shot.

True, but some of these kids are fickle. He may wanna enjoy college with his bestie for a year.

Getting a commitment would be a huge first step. Whether he comes here or goes NBA. Statement commit.

RE: Anfernee Simons
If the kid is guaranteed to make over $1M in the G league next year he’d be an idiot to go to college

I’d love to see him play for free at Memphis but the logical move is to take the automatic money

On the flip side if there’s a way for him to get an “injury insurance policy” to match his potential G-string leagues pay then he should come to Memphis and get real TV exposure

Copied and pasted about NCAA rules below:

Only athletes expected to be taken in the first three rounds in football or hockey and the first round in basketball or baseball qualify for the program, with a top-10 pick eligible for a $5 million policy.

Also, private insurers can offer policies to those who don’t qualify under NCAA...

Absolutely. A commitment really gets the ball rolling. Whether he ends up here or in the NBA next year is irrelevant to the news it would create today.

yup, has Rosenhaus as an agent too, who is a great agent.

@wojespn
Guard Anfernee Simons of IMG Academy is entering the NBA Draft, his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Bobby Petriella tell ESPN. Simons is No. 19 in ESPN's most recent mock draft.

This probably doesn’t hurt with Tyler Harris’ recruitment. If he and Lomax were going to coexist it probably wasn’t going to happen with Simons on the roster next year

I'd be willing to bet that Penny knows what's going on with the kid. And I'd also agree that this helps with Tyler Harris.
