If your Anfernee would you rather be making money now this year and start gaining some NBA experience or go to college?
Those crowds in Fort Wayne, Des Moines and Canton are sooo hard to turn down.
SI's mock draft from a week ago had Simons going #23. 23rd pick in this year's draft will make at least $1,371,500 in year 1, and $1,627,300 in year two. (Teams usually end up paying 20% more than scale for the 1st rounders, so probably more.) This doesn't include shoe money or other deals he could sign. If Simons is drafted 23rd and plays some G-League games in Des Moines, at that salary I think he would gladly do so.
Ft Wayne doesn’t look so bad now, does it?
Still looks pretty bad. Sh*t town.

That would be $3 million earned by the time he's 21 years old. (or the equivalent of making $100,000 for 30 years).
Not too shabby.
Ya, if I had a son who had the option I would tell him to take the money now every time. If you are a lock for the first round then you should enter the draft...

He would be able to shut down Union and march for that.

RE: Anfernee Simons
If Simons were a big, I could see him playing a year of college. NBA has a big man glut right now, and the top of this draft - Ayton, Bamba, Bagley, Jackson - is loaded with 4's and 5's.
But Simons plays a position of need right now in the NBA, scoring guard. And he is young and very athletic. That is exactly what NBA scouts are looking for, so those kind of guys don't usually drop in the draft.
Just see little chance he plays in college next season.

WHAS radio out of Louisville just mentioned that Penny is the new coach at Memphis and that Louisville fans aren't going to be happy. The sports guy said that Anfernee Simons, who had been recruited hard by Louisville when Pitino was still coach, is now looking like he will go to Memphis. I'm not sure where that came from but that is what was reported. Hope it's true.

RE: Anfernee Simons
These are always fun conversations. One of the main reasons you make the jump now is if you’re overrated and afraid you will be exposed in college. I get the risk-adverse side, but significantly better players have played in college (for 4 years) and have gone on to make way more money than this kid will probably make. I get it, a couple or few million dollars is a lot of money, but that is so much less than what lottery picks make or what a guy that actually sticks in the league would make. I guess this all boils down to how much development and maturation you think occurs at the D1 level. The NBA is full of grown men.

Siimons was a Louisville verbal commit for almost a year. De-committed after Pitino got canned.

Lots of variables, but I’d say if you were guaranteed first round that you take the money most of the time.
That said, I hope he decides to sign with us...

RE: Anfernee Simons
This draft is loaded.
Unless he gets a promise from a team, he should attend college to showcase his skills.
There are tons of players at his position who have showcased their skills and are known commodities.
You don't want to drop into the second round unless you are a second round type player.

If I was Simons Mom, I'd take out a max insurance policy that a Memphis booster would secretly pay for and I'd send him to be coached by the hero I named him after. That's what I'd do. If he's NBA, a year here could send him to the lottery.

RE: Anfernee Simons
Which is fine as long as you have First Round money.
But the G-league is full of players who got drafted in the first but will live in the G-league or go overseas.
I'd have a guarantee or I would go to college or overseas.
But if your goal in NBA which his most certainly is, your best chance in NCAA and then draft night.
Much higher percentage of players who went from college to an NBA team than g-league to an NBA team or go overseas then try to work back into the NBA.
Never works out.
Penny will help him map out his strategy.

24/7 Sports updated their prediction from 0 to 22% for him going to Memphis (if he goes to college at all). It was 50/50 for him going to UT, or FL

Memphis has all of the latest predictions. But I think the leader is still the NBA.
